Just think about it next year Deangelos Williams' and Ryan Kalil's contracts are up in 2010 Richard Marshall's and Thomas Davis' contracts are up if we don't sign peppers we clear a lot of money to invest in them and other free agents. even with an uncapped year it would still be better for the long term. Then again I don't know a lot about the economics of football.

The ideal situation would be having Brown step up and show he can be a starter in the NFL...

One thing not to forget is that Brayton needs time to be a full time DE since he was an OLB in Oakland... Mostly he needs consistency at one position. It's not out of the realm of possibility that he has a lot of potential yet to harness.

Johnson is going to be a starter one day, somewhere... I'm hoping he breaks out this year, but regardless, his numbers last year were great in the form of sacks. Hopefully he comes into his own in the run game...

Those 2 would be the best possibilities to fill in for Pep next year if he is gone and if Brown still needs another year to get used to the speed/knowledge of the game.

If Pep goes next year without being traded, then we have had 1 more year to get our current roster up to par to fill his spot, and we will have the cap room to make a move in FA if necessary.

However, just as great would be getting a long term contract done with him.... But if not, the above may help ya see what we are looking at in the future to sign other players.

Well if Peppers resigns it will be for a much friendlier cap hit than the close to 17 million he has now. They are not going to be able to keep everyone, so someone that we like and need is going to have to walk.

If Dwill is one of the truly greats in the NFL, I'm not so sure... however, I do agree with this since we have Stewart and maybe Goodson shows he can be a solid backup, and well, IMO, Pep is disposable after this year...

If we have to get rid of another, it will be Marshall... TD isn't going anywhere.

Since we have Stewart, it makes DWill more expendable.. And we aren't goin to find a replacement for TD (not a sure thing as we have now, including the relationship him and Beason have been able to develop)

I can't imagine TD going before anyone of those...

I don't think you resign Peppers if you are the Panthers. They didn't; it was a good thing.

Peppers had a killer season last year, easily worth a $100+ million contract! If you were his agent; looking @ his stats you had to be excited about talking to potential teams when the season ended. At the same time, to expect your client (Peppers) to have the SAME type of killer season THIS YEAR with the schedule we have; is slim to none. Let's say, Peppers goes from having 10+ sacks to the Peppers of old and gets 5, maybe 6... hell, maybe 2. The hype does. Think people will be willing toss $100+ million his way? Doubtful. He becomes more affordable.

Players always step up in a contract year; it's a fact. Peppers did last season and he had a kill season and afterward said he wanted to go somewhere else. The stars were aligned, everything was pointing towards him signing a 100+ million dollar deal with a team that could that (maybe the 'Skins). It didn't happen and now Peppers has to repeat his performance against a TOUGH schedule. I am sure his agent, knows this doesn't look good for him.

If I'm the Panthers, don't resign him. Let him play, let him struggle somewhat. Take your chances resigning him, when he gets off to slow start etc... like we did with Gamble last year.

I still feel that in the end, whether it's a HUGE deal or a reduced deal; Peppers will be somewhere else come 2010. He just doesn't want to play here... bottom line. The older he gets, the more he feels stuck in Carolina and the more frustrated and unhappy he is. That's a fact, too many Panthers fans don't understand.
