He does have that "I'm a dick" look about him, but then again he does things like Olsen and Smitty, etc.

I can see him being a hard-ass to work for, most definitely. As a fan, I didn't appreciate the 2010 season and I still have some problems with the way the game experience is at the stadium.

Other than that, I didn't hit the link, who cares really.

Wow, wtf? Compared to most if not all the rest of NFL owners, JR is an angel and saint IMO. Zygi Wilf was quietly convicted of racketeering in the offseason, while at the same time asking for half a billion in public $$$ to build a stadium, all the while putting a crap product on the field.

Most people don't become billionaires without pissing someone off. Very happy for JR.

J-Rich may be a Scrooge when it comes to his money and his business (much like many many others, I might add), but he has never struck me as one who revels in being miserly and mean outside of the business of football.  The two can be difficult to differentiate sometimes, and seemingly impossible to reconcile at times, but that's the world we live in.

That's my take, and, for now, I'm sticking to it.

Many of Jerry's contemporaries are family friends of ours from when my folks lived in downtown Spartanburg in the early 70's and they will almost all tell you one thing about Jerry Richardson: He is a horrid human being that made his fortune off of his partner's hard work and smarts. I don't know of anybody that has nice things to say about him from the old neighborhood.

And I personally remember when our school went from making lunches themselves to having to be supplied by Spartan Foods. We went from delicious, balanced, homemade meals to cheap-as-you-can-make-it slop.

Yeah he brought the team here, but he is nothing to be proud of for sure.

welp, then it's settled. southern small town gossip is always accurate.

Perspective is a funny thing.  I read it as spreading unsubstantiated 3rd party gossip rather than an "anecdote".

I'm sure there is more Delhommey can add to make his statement that JR is a "horrid man" more plausible.... but I'm ok if he passes on it.

Jerry Richardson is the most approachable and friendly billionaire I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

The man is not without flaw but he's as genuine as they come. I pride myself on seeing through fake people and those that put on a "good face" in public. I was literally humbled by his demeanor and presence. He spoke to us like we were old friends and you could see in his face and hear in his voice how thankful he was for our support. All the man wanted in return was a deviled egg to go.

It remains one of the coolest moments in my Pantherhood.

This is nothing more than the same irresponsible muck raking filth journalism that we have had to endure from the so called media towards our QB. There is no difference here. Just a cheap shot attack on a good man.

JR is a hard-nosed business man... it's the only way you turn a $2500 investment into a food service empire and convince the NFL to put a team in the Carolinas.

JR is also one of the most kind and caring human beings on the planet. Does the author know that every Panthers employee got two tickets to SB 38? How many owners do that? Does the author know that JR got wind of the birth defect Olson's son was going to be born with accompanied him on flights all around the country on a private jet after arranging consultations with the top experts in the field? Does the author know that JR drove 80 miles to attend the funeral of a PSL owner who died of a heart attack on the way out of the stadium? Does the author know that JR attended the funeral of one of his low level food service company employees and then cut the man's grass when he noticed it was tall and saw the lawn mower sitting in the shed?

I could go on and on and on but I won't, because BR and the clown who wrote this blog aren't worth it.

I'd like to know what the author of this blog has ever done for anyone else?

The only reason JR's sons got those jobs in the first place was because they were his sons.  They got canned because they sucked at them so bad even their own father who had given them the job they didn't deserve decided he would be better off without them.  That's some major suckage right there and good for Jerry for correcting a mistake so many people make (I'm looking at you MJ).

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
