SB Nation slams JR

He dumped salaries of overpaid and underperforming millionaires to set up the team for long term success. He kept every employee employed during the lockout...when most teams were laying off theses middle income positions.

Oh the horror.

The hatred on this board for anyone who is financially successful is just down right comical.

He dumped salaries of overpaid underperforming millionaires only to turn around and resign a bunch of underperforming overpaid millionaires.

To think it was motivated by anything other than $ is laughable.

And you are not anywhere close to financially successful in comparison. I like how you lump yourself in with a billionaire.

Of course he spent money the next year! He has no choice! There is a salary minimum that must be met. He also kept a lame duck coach in 2010 because he was too cheap to pay a new coach. He threw away the 2010 season and robbed his PSL owners. fug him!

The Panthers already have a very small staff compared to other organizations (because Jerry is a cheap ass). There was no reason to lay anyone off.

We're not talking about front office or scouts. We're talking about support staff, stadium workers, security, janitorial, etc. Pray tell, just where did you find the list of how many people the Panthers have in relation to other team's? (or did you just not know what you were talking about?)

And yeah, we wound up 13 million over the salary cap just to avoid being below the salary floor. Riiiiiiight

Oh sure. Overpaying underperforming players is a great way to make loads of profit. That makes perfect sense...somehow

Trying to determine whether your level of ignorance is learned or genetic. Either way, you have mastered it well.

And, where did I lump myself into anything. Stick to making stupid one line quips...you are marginally successful at it.

If all he cared about was money, he could gave dumped the salaries AND laid off half the staff.

It's funny that you think he was using some sort of stratergery prior to the lockout to better our team.

I used it to reference the thought process behind the thinking that Richardson did what he did for the future....saying strategery was a way of mocking you as a bumbling fool....as you defined it.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go twerk on the hoes up in hizeer. /urban slang out

It's something a lot of guys in his position wouldn't do.

But then I'm sure you can find a way to spin what he did for Greg Olsen and his attending the funeral of a fan he never even met as proof he's evil too

But a random internet guy who claims to know people is a reliable source, right?

"Hey guys Bernie Madoff saved a cat from a tree one time so why don't you shut up."

For the record Mr Scot is a fundamentalist Christian who's cool with Richardson being a ruthless and greedy jackass because he took an hour out of his time from pulling the legs off of grandaddy longlegs to attend someone's funeral  (there were no cameras or press coverage there either, and he certainly didn't do an interview with Sports Illustrated about it, that's how we know what a good guy he is.)

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
