NFL Vice President of Officiating...

Neither holding nor illegal contact apply when the ball is in the air.

It's PI or it's nothing. There are no other choices.

I'll concede to you knowing more about the rules here, so maybe it's technically correct. But that's a bad call.

The tuck rule was technically correct too. Still a bad call there.

Defensive players shouldn't be allowed to mug receivers like that.

Okay, boys and girls, enough is enough. The refs are well paid and trained... and hopefully they'll be full time refs soon.

But the league is not going to change the outcome, the refs won't get fired and the Patriots lost- none of that will change.

In more pressing news... there's a game in Miami this Sunday and it's time to get ready.

National media just can't fathom the Panthers winning. We're supposed to be ignored. Cam is supposed to be a 3rd or 2nd tier QB in this league. Our defense is supposed to be our only true bright spot. We're not supposed to be in the playoff talks. We're not supposed to pack out BoA for a big game and make noise. We're not supposed to even be in the game against a team like the Pats.

Oh...they mad.

I'll admit to not understanding the rules as clearly as others may, so if they made the correct call there, then it's a bad rule that nothing is a foul there.

The defense gets screwed a lot by the current rules, but can anybody honestly say that was a good play by Luke, and that should be allowed to happen on every defensive interception? If this had happened to us, we'd be losing our collective poo.

It can't be a bad call as THATS THE RULE. It may be a bad rule, but it's not a bad call. Learn the difference. The refs called it the way the rule is written. Period.

the only reason why the call is causing so much controversy is because it was in the end zone during the last second of an exciting high profile game...

...no one complains all the other times it happens on the field week in and week out. it's the reason why a lot of interference calls aren't thrown even tho guys are going at it like cats and dogs. as mentioned before, had brady thrown a better pass, it would have been pass interference. he even mention this in his press conference.

the real controversy is the referee throwing the flag in the first place.

Fine. It's a bad rule then. Defensive players should not be allowed to bear hug an offensive players while the ball is in the air.

At the end of the day my opinion doesn't matter, the refs called it the way they did, and we won the game. I'm ridiculously happy that we won. We earned that win, but I can't watch that play and think "good job there Luke."

There's more even than that.

Officials are graded on game performance. Those grades determine who gets to work playoff games, including the Super Bowl. Thus, there's actual money riding on this.

For that reason, Blandino can't be partial here. If he fails to penalize a crew for a mistake, he's essentially screwing the officials from every other crew.

He stated there would be no bad grades for this call.

Arent teams putting up enough 50 point games? I mean you seem to be speaking about it it terms of either "helping the game" or "breaking the game" right? Then think that out a little bit.

Tell me why they should give more restrictions to the defensive guys given all the other things they cant do. Isnt it hard enough already?

He said it was the right call given that the refs saw it at full speed. He said the officials believed there was contact at the exact time the ball was touched and therefore it was not a foul. A look at replay shows that this is not the case. We got away with one

If its in the rules, then its a good call. You might be able to argue that its a bad rule, although I disagree. I don't think interference should be called when it has no impact on the play. And in this case, it didn't unless Gronk has the ability to overcome the laws of physics.

I've looked at the replay over a dozen times from all angles.

It shows no such thing.

It does, however, show an uncatchable pass, which is the crux of the argument.
