Hurricanes sign Tom Kostopoulos

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Tom Kostopoulos to a three-year/$2.75 million contract.

The winger will get $700,000 in the first year, $950,000 in year two and $1.1 million in the final year. The Hurricanes will take a 916,667 cap hit in each year. "Tom is a character player who adds grit to our lineup," GM Jim Rutherford said. "He is a strong penalty killer and plays a high-energy game that will fit our team's style of play. The 30-year-old Kostopoulos is not worth selecting in fantasy pools as he is a third line player at best.

He's a gritty player who doesn't score very much, but hits everything in site. He had 22 points in 78 games last year for the Canadians. He was second on the team in hits and Penalty minutes.
