No long-term deal likely for Peppers

Does this mean that we'll have to tag him again next year??!! (providing he performs.)

What's Baltimore doing with Suggs?

I read that to hang the franchise tag on him in 2010 would be like $20 Million. He's better than average (maybe even great when he decides to be), but what player is worth that kind of money for 1 season?

"It appears the Carolina Panthers and defensive end Julius Peppers will not agree to a long-term deal before Wednesday's 4 p.m. deadline, meaning the two sides could be headed to another offseason standoff next January."

We know this isn't true because the Panther's offseason won't start until February...after the Superbowl...

I just think his value went down in the eyes of most NFL teams, and the only team that will pay him what he wants are going to be the Panthers, even in an uncapped year.

that can also be the reason he will not sign a long term deal this year..play under the tag and play lights out and then ask for a huge contract or get his value back up to go to another team.

already mentioned in other posts using different wording. the first two words in the quote are the most key ones. "It appears"

Of course it appears that way! No one has said anything since Carey issued the statement. I don't expect it to happen, but won't be surprised if it does. i've had the wait and see attitude for a while.

This is very dissapointing.

Peppers could have just swept all this under the rug, and no it will continue to drag on.

This just just throws fuel on a fire that was about out !

Until he signs a long term deal...many fans will still be annoyed with him.

Exactly!

They could be heading to an Agreement in 12 hours or an Agreement next Feb.

They only see standoff . . . Scheiss

how did his value go down with other teams? He simply came right out and said he wasn't interested in playing for most of the league ....and would only consider 4 teams outside Carolina............

I mean Tom Brady is arguably the best QB in the game.....if he came out and said he wanted to go play for Indy or NO........and didn't get an offer that doesn't mean his value dropped. It just means he wasn't a good fit for his short list.
