It's extremely possible, maybe even likely that we lose on Monday

Just from memory these are some of the teams the Panthers have sat down when they were riding high and the darling of the media.

SF when they were in our division and last week

Tampa Bay after their SB winning season

Cowboys with Neon Deon

GB with Brett

Giants in the playoffs.

Stl when they were the greatest show on turf

Eagles when we could not supposedly handle their great defense.

There's some history for ya.

N.E. Belly and Brady's time has come. Panthers the hype slayer come on down.

Hey I just wanted us to win one of these two games and we did, the more important of the two at that, the patriots are outside our conference and for playoff standings purposes a loss to them would be at a minimum.

Honestly I think the panthers are playing with house money! As long as we don't lose in a blowout fashion there's really no damage we can really receive in this game from a national standing and playoff standpoint.

You come to Sam Mills Fan for hard truths. Here are some hard truths:

- The Patriots are nearly unbeatable under Belichick late in regular seasons and after bye weeks.

- The Patriots are 7-2. We are 6-3.

- The Panthers are favored, albeit by a razor thin margin on Monday.

- The Panthers are the toast of the NFL media after the win over the Niners on Sunday.

- Panthers fans are suddenly as confident as they've been at least since the 2008 season.

Now, for those of you that have been Panthers fans long enough to remember 1995-2008, does this seem like a recipe for victory on Monday night? I don't think so. I've seen this script a million times before and it nearly always ends in a big defeat. Reminds me of when we went into Chicago in 2005 on a big winning streak around this time of year with a similar record and were being picked as a possible SB favorite and we got beaten pretty badly by the Bears because Jake laid an egg.

If I HAD to pick, I would go with my brain over my heart and pick the Patriots on Monday night. But even if we do lose, I think this team is still very poised to do some damage in the playoffs. And if we win, bucking all prior preconceptions about the Panthers throughout the franchise's entire history? Then you might want to start making plans for New York come February.

I hope I'm wrong!

not sure what teams that had a bunch of players and coaches who are no longer with the Panthers has to do with Monday night's game.

I think this will be another great test for our team.  We proved last week that we are as good as everyone else, so I have confidence that we will come out and compete.  A very different game than last week, and should also be a very hard fought nail biter.  Comparing this team to past Panthers teams, however, won't tell you anything.  It's like trying to predict the next number on a roulette table by looking at the last number board.  Means absolutely nothing.

I love people that always accuse me of not being a fan. I have an encyclopedic knowledge of the franchise and am currently wearing a Sam Mills jersey while typing about the Panthers instead of working but NOOOOOOOO I can't possibly be a fan.

actually the fact that you wear sports jerseys as everyday attire explains a lot

We have the formula to beat a QB like Tom Brady and the offense they run.

1. Stop the run

2. Getting Pressure on the QB

3. Control the Tempo of the game with Run game.

4. Home field Advantage.

Like it has been said this team plays with swagger and confidence & they expect to win every game.

There is no looking back now, just FORWARD.

This team does not care about the Pats, other than how it affects the game. It is called focus, and it is high on Rivera's list. Next man up=Next team up. Big game for sure, but still just another game.

We ARE the fugging Pats, just a younger better, far more Physical version. This game should prove to everyone, Brady is nearing his end. He will leave The Bank, (Thanx to Zod for that one.) bruised and battered.

Great point and I can't explain it. You're right, 1995 has zero bearing on 2013. But yet this same thing happens every year we're contending no matter the personnel or coaches.

I know it is tough to wrap your head around, because of our losing ways of late, but the culture up in here is changing. This Panther team has only been together for 2 1/2 years. They are still defining their own culture. And right now, that culture is trending up fast. Get on or get outta the way.

It is more about the way you express your concerns that gets in the way. 6 months ago, we had plenty of concerns to fret over. Now? Not so much. This year, we are who we are. A petty damm good football team. Folks don't want to be bothered by negative thoughts right now. To busy enjoy the season to do much fretting.

How about the fact that the Panthers are the only, I think, team with 4 players with over 35 catches. How about some stats to build up your confidence, instead of stats to feed your fear?

Gee thanks for the input, but next time, leave the half-empty glass in your own kitchen.

Try to enjoy some of the current success instead of speculating on future doom and gloom. You'll be happier for it.

Now, now, the Huddle has room for the "Worse Case Scenario" folks. They keep the equilibrium in good chi.

Ive argued with SMF for years here, but not once have I doubted his fandom.

Like myself, he has been conditioned by repeated failures from the Panthers, doubt when opinions are high should be a reaction all of us feel. This team has a long history of breaking the spirits of the fanbase.

That history is not "This Teams" history. Last week should be enough to prove to you that "This Team" can beat anyone.

At home, a great Defense against Brady on a down year, our running game with no Wolfork, all Cam has to do is not turn the ball over, and we should win.

31-17 Carolina

More specifically, this game will either make Rivera look like he belongs as a HC, or a clown if Belichik runs circles around him.

All or nothing there hey sport? What if we Spank the Pats just like we spank just about everybody else? Will Rivera be a better coach than billycheat? I would think so.

Of course it is possible to lose to the Pats. I don't think anyone thinks otherwise. But this isn't the dominate Pats team of years past.

As with every game, if we can play a clean game, take care of the ball, not extend their drives with penalties, and just play our game we should win.

The only team that can beat the Panthers are the Panthers.

As scary as that thought is. It is extremely true.

If we want to be thought of as legitimate contenderz. It is imperative we spank the Pats Mon. nite. Protect your house.

You are right. Play our game and we should win. Limit the drops and mistakes, and we should spank them good. "This Team" just does not make mistakes, you gotta give it to Rivera for that. Other than those damm drops that is.
