It's extremely possible, maybe even likely that we lose on Monday

Ive argued with SMF for years here, but not once have I doubted his fandom.

Like myself, he has been conditioned by repeated failures from the Panthers, doubt when opinions are high should be a reaction all of us feel. This team has a long history of breaking the spirits of the fanbase.

Indeed it does.  So many big games...and so many excruciating losses.  I mean, I am at peace with the Superbowl because that team played as good as they could have, but just came up short.  Then you look at the Arizona playoff game and want to throw up.  I think a lot of fans are seeing a change because the San Francisco game was a game the "Panthers of old" would usually lose, but they managed to win.  We'll see if that was just a hiccup or if the trend of blowing big games is truly changing.

I remember having a similar feeling before we played the giants in 2008.

And then we curb stomped them. It was great.

Hope this team responds similarly.

Yea I think u mean 09 when we played them in their last game at the meadowlands and we won I also think we knocked them out of playoff contention

Stewart destroyed them that game since dwill was out he ran for over 200

To me this game is more significant than the Niners game.

Pats have been the gold standard since 2001 and generally the league looks out for them. The Panthers are basically the polar opposite of that.

A win Monday, in front of the Nation sets this team up for a roll that could possibly be magical. A loss could cause everyone to pump the breaks, especially if it is a big loss.

More specifically, this game will either make Rivera look like he belongs as a HC, or a clown if Belichik runs circles around him.

We beat the living hell out of them (a shutout) in the playoffs that year.  Was a thing of beauty.

As much sense as the OP made, there is ONE difference: I honestly believe this Panthers team is different than any other we've seen. I can't recall, even in the Super Bowl run, seeing this team just pull it together like it has and not only play with confidence, but inspire confidence. Even when we were losing against the 9ers, I just KNEW we'd find a way to win it. Not once did I think "man, this is gonna be a loss". Not once. And given the past few years, I think that speaks volumes. We may lose Monday night. It's football. You can't win 'em all and tough losses are gonna come. We're almost definitely not running the table the rest of the way (not impossible, but it is improbable). If we take our licks this Monday, so be it. However, I see our next loss coming to either Miami or NO. We seem almost destined to win this Monday, given everything we've been through and how far we've come.

Plus, as it has been pointed out at least once earlier in this thread, the Panthers in the 2nd half of the season under Rivera and Cam have been great. We will at least make a game of it Monday, and that's all I can realistically ask for. That being said, a loss would crush me and I may spin into depression for a week.

Of course it is possible to lose to the Pats. I don't think anyone thinks otherwise. But this isn't the dominate Pats team of years past.

As with every game, if we can play a clean game, take care of the ball, not extend their drives with penalties, and just play our game we should win.

The only team that can beat the Panthers are the Panthers.

No way, I think everyone remembers that one for what it was.

After looking at the '08 schedule, I still don't know what I was thinking about.

maybe I was thinking of the '09 giants game we won 41-9?

I'm not even 30 yet and the memory must be going...

I think It may have been the 2009 game. I believe Steve Smith Broke his arm that game and Matt Moore was QB? I could be wrong though

I love people that always accuse me of not being a fan. I have an encyclopedic knowledge of the franchise and am currently wearing a Sam Mills jersey while typing about the Panthers instead of working but NOOOOOOOO I can't possibly be a fan.

I don't ever question whether or not someone is a true fan, but passing your post off as the "cold, hard truth" is laughable....you're worried about losing and you think everyone else should follow suit. I ain't riding that train.... Everyone on it is mopey and depressing. I've had enough of that over the past four years.
