Fascinating Drayton Florence Stat

@Gil_Brandt: DBs in @NFL burned least amount of time this season: 1. Talib (32.3%), 2. Delmas (36%), 3. Florence (40.7%)

It's not really surprising to see Talib's name up there (assuming there is a minimum amount of snaps needed to qualify), but seeing Florence's name up there was pretty shocking.

Not too shabby for a player who was signed, cut, then signed again.

What's fascinating is that he's the one we didn't think earned a spot on the roster, so we cut him.

Based on his preseason play it was a reasonable, though still surprising given the lack of CB experience, cut. Drayton has come back and played lights out.

So, is getting burned having a WR run past you and make a catch, is it a deep ball, or is it anytime you fail to defend a pass and a WR makes a catch, even a quick slant in front of you?

How many yards away from the WR must the DB be in order to consider it their assignment and therefore they were burned?  I have so many questions, yet so little interest...

    • I think the experts overthink it at times.  I am also not sure they measure things that matter, and if you measure things that don't really matter, it can cause your board to fluctuate--you are creating bias using facts that are assumed to equate to performance.  Football is an emotional game, and if I were a GM, I would measure emotional intelligence.  I would measure (if this can be measured) the speed of conversion from a concept (technical/mechanics) to muscle memory.  I would watch film and time how long it takes a qb to get to their second and third reads--how long does it take an ILB to make the first step and how often do they false step.  How often does a WR bobble a pass vs. clean catches? Examples, but there has to be something we are not measuring that would improve our success rates in drafts.
