A Reporter's Insight Into Rivera

I don't think anyone ever had a problem with Rivera the man. It was Rivera the coach we didn't like. It was the decisions to punt and kick field goals late in 4th quaters and his time management skills people had a problem with.

I for one have always been a fan of Rivera the person. He comes across as genuine, down to earth coach. Obviously this is from watching interviews and camp highlights and crap like that. I thought it was pretty cool when he brought that little kid into training camp this off season.

ditto this.

what i didn't like was the lack of guts in certain situations. the lack of chance taking. i didn't like his game management, esp. late and in crucial situations because he chose the "safe" route that went "by the book" and i thought that those decisions cost us games as much or more than any mistakes that other players may have made.

turns out he ended up feeling the same way and changed, hence "riverboat ron".

he became the coach i was hoping he'd be when he got hired.

Haha! I scanned the roster quickly after I heard the Fua news and no one really jumped out at me. Anyone you want to see gone? I can make it happen!

That security guard that shot me a dirty look during the Giants game when I yell something inappropriate at Coughlin.

I thought he'd learned those hard lessons about not leaving points on the board and being more aggressive at the end of last year when we went on that run at the end of the year.  In interviews I've heard him say he did and promised himself he wouldn't coach not to lose anymore but saying it and doing it are two different thing.

I remember finally thinking maybe I'm wrong after the Arizona game.  Maybe Rivera hadn't turned the corner and would be fired by the end of the season.  The entire time he's been a coach after that game was the only time I doubted him.

You got me thinking. If I come up with somebody, I'll let you know. That Smitty guy is dropping some passes. You want I should take a look at him?

I had said before that I thought he really did believe he was being pretty aggressive. For a Defensive minded Coach, maybe being aggressive is just letting your QB throw the ball. Whatever it was, he found out he still had a step to make. And my Zod, did he take that step in style. In front of a nation he marked a definitive starting point for his 1st dynasty.

The "I was there" stories will begin to crop up. The stories will be epic, because the play was epic. There will be folks claiming they saw this coming, some telling you to hold your horses a bit, and the rest are just giddy outta' their minds.

Cam and Rivera gots this. They should be together for Cam's whole career. Too bad they got off to such a slow start. Cuz the numbers are going to be worthy of Dynasty conversation. If we add a Stud WR, our corp. is as good as, and deeper than, any group out there.

Same for the DB situation. We add a Stud CB to this group, yeah, we are scary er good.

That's with this type O-line. Upgrade that unit with, at minimum, a quality LT, and we have another unit with great depth.

...Who leaves the gang 1st? McD, or Shula? Trick question. Gonna be a while before Shula lives down that past. Maybe next year, but definitely not this year. McD has a shot. The right team, and all that, and he could be gone bye bye.

Sorry for the tangents. I truly do try to keep it short and sweet. Hellz, I lose at keeping short and sweet, short and sweet.

Next up would probably be Josh Norman. That just shows you the progress we've made with the bottom of our roster.

But no, I'm not saying it's time yet. Be gentle.
