Core Players

This team is loaded with player that make a difference.

Who are the Core players you keep no matter what

Obviously

Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly our team captains on both sides of the ball.   Our franchise players offense and defense.

RB Williams..... though older he is more reliable

TE Olsen

OL Kalil and Silatolu (though injured)

DT Star

DE Johnson

LB Kuechly

DB Mitchell

K Gano

While you want to keep the hole group in tact these are the players I think are our core players.

I love J. Gross he has been a Panther through thick and thin but he is getting long in the tooth and shouldn't be considered a core player anymore.

Hardy does too many things on that D-Line not to be considered a Core Player.

I agree with the sentiment that Hardy is a core player.  DG needs to do what he can to retain his services without hamstringing us for when Cam and Luke need to be resigned.  I don't know if that's possible but I have confidence Hardy will be here for a long time.

To me Core guys are guys that if we didn't have them we have to change how we play the game.

Cam Newton - Without him at QB we are completely different on offense.

Luuuuuuuke - Best LB in the NFL and he never comes off the field.  His backup is dodo.

Charles Johnson - Big money brings it and I think he's still better than Hardy and has more experience.

Death Star - The difference between last years D and this year is Star.  His push in the middle is incredible.  It frees to Luke to be even better and give the DE the chance for one on ones and the QB never has a pocket to step into.  I think he's DROTY and will be the best DT in the league by in a few years if not next year.

Jordan Gross - People say he's old but take him off that line and we're in a world of poo.

Steve Smith - He's not what he once was but he still gets double teams and when it's go time he shows up.  This team needs his leadership and passion.

Mike Tolbert - Some may call me crazy but I think Mike is out best RB.  His style of running fits our offense perfectly.  He's almost unstoppable on short downs and around the goalline.  He's also got very fast and light feet and can cut like a smaller man.  He's also has really good hands.  D-lo is really good.  Stewart is really good but we've seen them go down and we keep on moving.  We lose a lot more that can't be replaced in Tolbert.

Everyone else in my eyes we could lose and still be a great team.  There are some other really good guys I love on this team like Kalil or Mitchell, or hte Kracken but I tried to keep it to guys that would cause us to have to drastically alter our game plans if we lost.

    • What's our cap situation looking like going forward? It would be nice to use it all on players wearing our jerseys for once
    • It's time to let Canales choose his own DC this offseason. Keeping Evaro took a bit off his plate his rookie season but it's time for him to put his identity on the defensive hires
    • Even if he loses his explosiveness that he used to have, he'll still be an effective slot WR with his crisp route running.  He basically would be a shorter Thielen who turns into a great possession slot WR who can be a safety valve for a QB. Whether he wants to do that is another question, you play RB your whole life, when you can't anymore, you might just want to retire and enjoy life being married to a model, wouldn't blame him. But even with the beating his body has gone through, I think he'd be a more than effective slot WR in this league for years to come.
