This next game is going to be a huge measuring stick alright... For the Patriots.

Im not sold the Patriots are real contenders. Who have they beat? A very lucky win against New Orleans and yes the 5-4 Jets. But lets look at their cake schedule shall we..

Buffallo, New York, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Cincinnati, New Orleans, New York, Miami and Pittsburgh. If the Patriots can go into Charlotte and beat a true contender like the Panthers, they will then prove they are legitimate contenders and worthy of talk about them making a playoff run. The bottom line is this game will be a huge test and good measuring stick for the Patriots to know just how good (or bad) they are and what kind of team they are.

There, am I doing it right? And for those thinking "oh no he didnt just go there!" Yes the hell I did, bring it!

That's cool that you mentioned the 'measuring stick'.   That's the same thing I was telling all of my Panther hateing buds at work last week....'The 9'ers will be a measuring stick as far as where we are at'......those sons of bitches still won't aknowledge that game .......lol.    I even passsed a house today on the way to the gym that I've been passing by for the last 8 years and have never seen anything remotely sports related in their front yard;  today they had a Carolina Panther flag flying on their front porch.

Life is good   :)

Hahaha.  Sounds right, but your logic is flawed.  You prey on the fact that their schedule is cupcake.  However, most commentators saying the Panthers need to prove themselves base their judgment on one more piece of criteria:  sustained relevance and success.  Panthers don't have that, and the Pats do.  Thus leading most to doubt us, and ask us to prove ourselves.  Anyway, they DID beat the Saints and they ARE 7-2.  So . . . you lost on that part, too.  I admire your gusto, though.  Go Panthers!

I don't think it's being cocky as much as it is a direct reflection of the bias the media has when referencing these two clubs. On the one hand you have a small market team with no trophies in the case vs. a media darling in a big market with multiple championships to their credit.

We all know that NE is a perennial contender and it's more of a shock when they don't contend for the playoffs but if you use the "each year is a fresh start" method you will see how their past just doesn't mean anything.

Does our past transgressions have any bearing on how this group of players performs? Does the fact that Mike Ditka coached the Bears to a championship in 85 give the Bears the inside track to a wild card spot? Or conversely, does the multiple playoff and championship failures the Patriots have endured recently mean that they are just a speed bump on the way to the Super Bowl for one team or another?

The answer to these profound questions is no.

These are different teams with different players and in some cases different coaches from years past. The past is irrelevant. It's all about now. These two teams must suit up on Monday come out and lay it on the line. The best team will win. And in my incredibly biased and homertastic opinion, that team will be us.

The Patriots have been to the playoffs every single year and a few superbowl appearances .. AFC Championship last year, so who the hell are you to start this thread?  What has Carolina done lately?  And who the heck is Cam Newton for Carolina to be favored to the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick led New England Patriots that are 7-2 and leading the division.  This thread makes me want to vomit, it is sooo arrogant and soo stupid and very disrespectful to the game of football.  You guys want to talk about a cake schedule, who have you all beat?  And what real quarterback other then Drew Brees have you beaten?  You guys better beat him, you see him in the division every freakin year, so it doesn't count.  You guys beat the no offense overrated San Fransisco 49ers and Colin Kaepernick, a second year read option quarterback? lol don't make me laugh.  You guys better be lucky San Fran can't score.  Go on a little winning streak and now all of a sudden you are the best team in the NFC? lol that is Seattle, hate to burst your little bubbles and boost of confidence.  Funny how I only came on this site because fans came over to ours first talking trash for no reason.  Well let me make this simple for you.  You guys are a one dimensional team, great defense and no offense that has not faced a Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady led team outside of your division, well let me spell it out for you.  ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL YOUR CONFIDENCE WILL BE SHAKEN and YOU WILL BE KNOCKED BACK DOWN TO EARTH.. because YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THE BIGTIME.  and Cam Newton will only DREAM of going toe to toe with Tom Brady.  Cam is a great athlete that is garunteed to throw a pick or two at least once a game.  I cannot wait for this game.. to humble some of this unnecessary noise from this site.
