steve smith has yet to be shutdown this whole season IMO, he's average over 50 yards majority of our games this season.............he himself has cause his own production to got down by this drops but i believe in smith he's going to have one heck of a 2nd half of the season, i still believe he will crack 1000 yards

 

Dude, when you keep a team's #1 passing option to 50 yards or less and usually no TD.... that is shutting him down lol.  He definitely has had drops but the guy just isn't elite anymore, on a consistent basis.  I can't wait till we get Cam a legit #1 WR, we'll really see how he can play.   

 

For one example, Reavis basically shut down Smith in the Tampa Game.

 

Smith can still have a nice clutch catch (after dropping a couple earlier) but he hasn't gone off in a while.   We shouldn't expect him to.  it's stupid he's our #1 anyway, we should have someone else in there taking up that role by now.

He's faced Talib twice a season for a few seasons and he excels vs bigger receivers. I'm feelin good about that matchup.

I don't think Talib is a shadow one receiver type CB. Doesn't he stay on one side in their base defense? I could be wrong but I thought at least in TB he stayed on the left only.

He is in NE now. Belichick does whatever. He shadowed a TE all game the other day.

Talib is in a better scheme in NE that allows him to press and play man coverage (his strength) on WR compared to cover 2. I look for smitty to be average or less. Talib has been shadowing the #1 passing threat up until his injury.

I would love for Smitty to have a big game.  You know he has to be mad at himself for the drops.  A mad Smitty is a good Smitty.

 

By the way, we have seen drops this year, but have not seen them 2 games in a row.

I feel it coming as well, 89 is still my boy! Lost a step or two, or three, as mention tons of time, but ole faithful still has that fire!

that's the problem you guys are expecting smith to blast off for a 100 yards or near it every game when in fact his production like i stated previously has drop because he himself throw in that ginn,lafell, and olsen are all contributing equally. Don't get me wrong he's not the same SS from 05 and we do need to draft a replacement next year but i think some of you guys overblow the whole smitty thing, guy is still the heart of our offense, hell the team. What he brings to the table cannot be replace easily but saying he's lost a step because he drops the ball more then usually is beyond me, he's still getting good separation.
