Expect a HUGE game from Smitty Monday night...

Lol.  Y'all realize that you are saying that Smith isn't elite anymore and in the same breath saying that Talib will shut him down because he is "playing cornerback better then [sic] ANYBODY right now."

To me, that means 89 is STILL elite.  Anytime you can take the other team's best corner out of the rest of the game, and often roll coverage over, the offense has a distinct advantage.  To me, that IS elite.

This was just LAST YEAR:

I think that's from Cams rookie season making it about 2 years old and with WRs they decline very fast when they get up there in age see Chad, Moss, T.O. Steve may be able to continue to play as a solid 2 or 3 but we most definitely need to find a true #1 who can get separation consistently I truly believe that is what is holding our offense back because we don't have those big plays from our #1 anymore

Newton throws a high volume at 89.....and isn't elite anymore.

If they put Talib on him isn't taking Talib out of the game.....bc Cam will still try to complete balls to him. Means high odds for wasted downs or turnovers.

Cam getting tunnel vision and locking onto 89 HAS ZERO TO DO with 89's ability.  That argument is extremely illogical.  I agree he has lost a step, but garnering so much attention still makes you elite in my book.  I mean, how many receivers are there in the NFL?  How many of those receivers are household names?  How many of those household names require game planning?  There are only 32 teams.  There are, according to ESPN, approx. 220 WRs in the NFL right now.  That puts 89 in then TOP 15% of receivers in the league.  ELITE.

Smith isn't even in the top 40 in yards this year.

I know his numbers are down.  I am not arguing that point.  That is what everyone is going to to argue he isn't elite anymore.  I acknowledge that, but am bringing up an alternative perspective to judging one's "eliteness."

I agree with this Zod. I'm remembering a Vikings Sunday night game back in 08 or 09 (I think), when Favre played for them and Smitty went off. Panthers seem to either stomp competition in night games or get stomped......christ I'm already sweating.

A lot can be lost in two years, yeah.  But going from that to where he is now still brings him down to a high level.  I am not even sure you were making a case for him either way, though, as I think you were pointing out a trivial miscue on my part.  Thanks for the contribution...

I believe it more likely that Tolbert will have a huge day. With the personnel on the o line struggling with pass protection and an emphasis on imposing our will, we will be more prone to lining up and hitting them in the mouth. I can think of no one better than the tugboat to do exactly that
