Would you be opposed to a Julio Jones type draft day trade for a stud WR?

Not me. I say we pick the best TE and run a stud offense through two-TE sets. New England was unstoppable with Hernandez and Gronk, and Jimmy Graham is far and away the best weapon for Brees. So I say yea, draft a WR, but tight ends are where it's at now, outside of a Megatron type guy. You can draft them later, and when it comes time to re-sign them, they are cheaper too. A godsend for a team that has some BIG contracts coming up over the horizon.

I definitely want a beast TE more than anything.

Can we just disspell the myth that because Carolina has been bad at drafting WR's in the past means we will continue to be bad at it in the future. Gettleman isn't hurney. He has his own draft philosophy and outside of the build the trenches up first we have no real clue what positions he is good at looking at or not. Don't hold your breathe getting a WR in the first. Knowing Dave we probably go oline.

This scenario isn't even applicable to us because we will be in position to draft a WR anyway....

We will be in the Watkins/Evans range when we pick and one of those would be a fine first round pick.(prefer Watkins though)

Just for clarity, where do you have us finishing?

What needs to do we have other than WR and O line? Our D is set, I truely believe we have one of the worst and most inconsistent WR corps in the league and yes thats Smitty including, if Smitty retires and teams double Lafell lol, its game over for our offense. We need a playmaker bad.

Stock piling picks wouod make sense for us 2 years ago, but if we are now contenders, it makes more sense for un to draft that one final superstar piece to put us over the top. You really wouldnt make a trade for a Julio Jones or AJ green type WR if he was there for a trade? We really arent in rebuild more anymore.

Remember when the Eagles went out and got TO to put them over the top?

Yea.

I'd rather get a handful of receivers and linemen than just 1.  We need at least 2 receivers, but they don't need to be superstars, they just need to be good.

it was a good for the falcons they just dicked it up by bouncing out of the playoffs twice, then not resigning key pieces and not getting a competent DC but now its too late they might be fugged for the net couple of years. we don't need a julio type wr to take the net step but we do need a ot, hell a good te would solve alot of things as well

It's tempting bc Mike Evans would be amazing.  As others have pointed out since Cam throws high a lot we need a big WR who can go up and reel in passes.  That's Mike Evans but he's going top 10 no doubt.  I still say no to doing it but it'd be tempting.  Evans could complete Cam.

That has been our problem, drafting WRs in later rounds. We need a stud WR in the 1st round, its time.

Just FYI... of the top 30 current receivers in the NFL in total receiving yards right now, the average round grade for those top 30 receivers is Round 3. And the average overall choice grade is Choice 87.

So the average grade of the current Top 30 receivers in the NFL right now is near the BOTTOM of the 3rd Round.

If we are picking in the mid to late 20s, would you be opposed to a blockbuster draft day trade for say a Sammy Watkins or the top WR of that draft? Our D is set, we dont need anymore pieces aside from mid level depth we can just get on the cheap in FA. Yes O line is a concern but we are in DESPERATE need for a true playmakimg WR and if Sammy Watkins owns the combine and pro day, I dont think I would be opposed to it. We have the best backfield in the NFL, we have our franchise QB, we can build the O line through mid level FAs and later in the draft. What we are lacking in a huge way is a true stud WR.

If we make it to the playoffs, and with virtually no glaring holes on the defense, I say Gettleman should pull the trigger to put us over the top. Im thinking maybe a 1st and 2nd, or maybe more if their is a good enough WR.

Hell no
