Would you be opposed to a Julio Jones type draft day trade for a stud WR?

1. Not a Calvin Johnson type player in the draft

2. Were more of a Run and Pound style offense so no point putting all our eggs in for 1 WR

 

 

Will not be opposed for trading up 4 or so spots only trading away small change like a 4th-5th for a Mike Evans

 

 

Would Rather IMO get Ebron TE out of UNC and get some WR (Nicks or Britt) in FA

That has been our problem, drafting WRs in later rounds. We need a stud WR in the 1st round, its time.

 

Stud WR like you say don't come that often and usually fall to the top 5 picks. There is no reason to get a stud wr if your line is as FUBAR as it is right now.

 

Atlanta has enjoyed Julio very little. He is done for the season and has had about 1 1/2 good seasons. Yes he is a talent but they have suffered more than gained. Look at them this year. No o line, bad defense, no running game, nothing. They suck but hey, they have a stud WR.

 

You can find good talent in later rounds, not just the 1st round. Look around the league man...The second round is the perfect round to get a playmaker, dare I say the 3rd. Steve smith was a 3rd round pick. So don't say we can not find talent in later rounds. It is possible but its up to gettlemen to find them. Heck, who says we won't land a stud WR via FA? There are options. First things first. PROTECT YOUR QB!!!

I bet you would have agreed with Mike Ditka trading his entire draft for Ricky Williams...

I think sometimes guys with a rep for being super bold do stuff solely so they can remind everybody just how 'bold' they are.

And most of the time, that action winds up being something stupid.

Rex Ryan's another one with a tendency to make dumbass moves just to feed his own ego.

If we are picking in the mid to late 20s, would you be opposed to a blockbuster draft day trade for say a Sammy Watkins or the top WR of that draft? Our D is set, we dont need anymore pieces aside from mid level depth we can just get on the cheap in FA. Yes O line is a concern but we are in DESPERATE need for a true playmakimg WR and if Sammy Watkins owns the combine and pro day, I dont think I would be opposed to it. We have the best backfield in the NFL, we have our franchise QB, we can build the O line through mid level FAs and later in the draft. What we are lacking in a huge way is a true stud WR.

If we make it to the playoffs, and with virtually no glaring holes on the defense, I say Gettleman should pull the trigger to put us over the top. Im thinking maybe a 1st and 2nd, or maybe more if their is a good enough WR.

 

 

We are a run first team that sets up the rest of the offense.......We need to go O-line first this year and get a top OL (RG, LT, RT) ....    Even though this year has a strong OL class we need to get the cream of the crop Lineman like we did with Star Lotulelei....... We need to build a Offensive line that compliments the Defensive line........A Physical & athletic group that dominates the trenches........Where trying to build a Legacy Panther's Nation! :rr:

The Falcons really coveted a receiver in the first round because they were eager to move up from the 27th spot. It was a blockbuster deal. In exchange for getting the sixth pick, Atlanta gave the Browns five -- five! -- draft picks: their 1st- (27th overall), second- (59th) and fourth-round (124th) picks this year and their first- and fourth-round picks in 2012.

 

 

I would be very opposed. There are a few WRs that I have been looking at, and I don't think that they'll all be gone by the time we're on the clock.  

 

If we were gonna do that, we should have taken our chances with Josh Gordon. If we're going to take the conservative, gradual approach to team building, then no way we should risk a King's ransom to get some perceived college stud (who is as subject to injury as anyone else). I'd rather do it the right way and hopefully add some solid depth (not saying that Harry Douglas isn't), but the Falcons have issues at many positions---issues that could have been addressed with the five picks they gave up.

No offense but this is the first time in 5 seasons that the current season matters. I don't know why a Panthers fan would be concerned about drafting when there is so much meaningful football left this year.

Live in the moment and enjoy the current team. There will be plenty of time to discuss all this when the season's over. Just my opinion. To me it's awesome to be able to discuss the current team because we're actually relevant.

Yes, I would be opposed to a blockbuster trade. Lets not put all our eggs in one basket. Say we do that blockbuster trade and give up a 1st, 2nd and lets say a 5th for the best WR in the draft. He tears his ACL in Spartanburg, Preseason or Week 1, then we're right back where we were, with very little improvement. Yes, we need a top WR and eventhough we're playing well, we have a few other needs too, let's fill them before giving away draft picks...

Ummmm, no. Mike Evans, for instance, is easily more comparable to V-Jax (not Allen), and Evans is clearly going in the Top 20 in 2014.

Point? Carolina hasn't drafted a gamechanger at WR since Smitty. We don't exactly have a great track record.

Kenan allen has 568 yards and 3 TDs in the NFL, what's Mike Evan's NFL stats? The point is you never know how good they will really be til they are in the league.

 

And you're right, the Panthers haven't drafted a game changing WR since Smitty, but A.  Gettleman has been here for one draft and didn't select a WR period, and B. If finding a game changing WR was that easy, every team would be loaded, and you wouldn't have teams like the Patriots, Dolphins, and Raiders who are pretty barren at the position.

Not me. I say we pick the best TE and run a stud offense through two-TE sets. New England was unstoppable with Hernandez and Gronk, and Jimmy Graham is far and away the best weapon for Brees. So I say yea, draft a WR, but tight ends are where it's at now, outside of a Megatron type guy. You can draft them later, and when it comes time to re-sign them, they are cheaper too. A godsend for a team that has some BIG contracts coming up over the horizon.

 

Love this plan.
