Game Grades - Panthers at 49ers

Well, all I have to say is, yesterday's game was a street brawl between Colin and Cam. They both brought their teams along and the game was everything it was billed to be. The media stated that the defense was going to win it for either team because they were pretty well matched on the offensive side. They were, for the most part, right.

But and I do mean BUT...the Panthers Receivers could have done way more damage in the scoring department if they had caught some of those balls Cam threw.

I remembered watching a game, don't remember what team, but the Announcer was livid because the Receivers of that team kept dropping perfectly passed balls. The Announcer's suggestion was, maybe it's time for those Receivers to put some velcro on their gloves if they are having a hard time catching and holding onto the ball. I will say the same thing to the Panthers Offense. They need to do whatever it takes to help Cam. The team is on a roll. Let's not mess up a good game because issues with catching balls. That is what practice is for.  I am not one of those fans who expect perfection and will go beating up on players because I know how fickled the game of football can be but when the team is in position to capitalize and they are not because of dropped balls, that energizes the other team when they see that. As stated many time Football is both physical and psychological.

Maybe it's time to put some sticky or velcro on those gloves. Do whatever it takes to catch those perfectly thrown balls because you know not every single ball will be perfect.

Anyway, after watching yesterdays game. I will give the Offense a B. They redeemed themselves despite the dropped balls, Cam Int, and the O-line breaking down to quickly around Cam.

The Defense gets a solid A+. They showed up and showed out!!! Nuff said.

The Secondary did make two costly mistakes, so I will give them a Solid c+

And whoever that guy was on the Panthers defense that caught Colin's INT, maybe the Offensive coach need to use him to show the Receivers of this team how to JUMP and CATCH a damn ball. :)

Since i cannot make my own thread, i will eat my crow here.

Yall whooped the hell out of us. Maybe more of a physical beating than the Seahawks put on us.

The Panthers defense is for real....We had many plays of luck and fortune go our way and we still couldn't do anything.

I was surprised to see Frank Gore run pretty decently on yall until he got hurt and that was the end of that.

This loss does hurt though, only way to recover is to whoop the hell out of the Saints. If Kaep doesn't show some type of composure in the pocket going forward we are doomed against any team with a good defense.

Congrats and GG.

early on cam was like i tbought he would be....jittery. he was much like he was in the early part of the atl game. he made dumb mistakes, but after 2-3 series settled down. after that the offenses woes lied mainly on receivers dropping balls and the 49ers playing good stout D. i think that last part gets overlooked in the discussion. the san fran D is the real deal.

the good news to me is that this is the stoutest D  we'll face the rest of the regular season.  i don't expect us to be so shaky the rest of the season.

I saw that too... Cam looked very nervous to start.  When he's like that, the ball sails.  His WRs didn't help him much at times eithers.

Zod's grades are dead on.

Except maybe that the defense should get an A+++.

yeah, i think special teams deserves more than a C. aside from a couple goofs, they were great. colin jones was huge for us. the kickers did their job well. gano redeemed himself, imo, after that one miss.

i think even on that punt that we ended up losing wasn't horrible for one reason...we blocked it. what happened after that was a fluke because of what the ball did, but we were getting back to the kickers fairly well from what i saw. we were in better position to block them this game than i can remember us being in a long time.

the coverage unit was great as usual.

it wasn't a perfect game on special teams, but it was solid and i saw some improvement in some areas. i give them a B.

So if SF had recovered instead of Tolbert and then scored, with that score very possibly being the margin in the game, would you be giving Stew a pass? No. No one is saying it wasn't a great play by Whitner and no one is saying that every fumble is preventable, but the bottom line is that fumbling in that situation is a major, major mistake.

In every game mistakes will be made. It's not the mistakes...yes u don't want to keep making them...but the fact that the Panthers showed not only a sense of alertness but willingness to weather those mistakes, that impressed me.

Let's keep it real, that missed fieldgoal last night had some of you already saying the game was over. Why is that? Because whether you realized it or not, it was your way of saying, this team doesn't know how to handle adversity. You have seen them faulter and lose close games over the simplest of mental break-downs. They showed last night TWICE, that they are turning the corner. They weathered their mistakes and came out on top.

The Panthers as a team, is learning and growing as a team. Mistakes will be made but it's the mental process that produces positive outcome that I like even more.

Cam has to stop throwing high passes, just has to.   That and the odd couple INTs he's had to no one in the last two games.  Other than that, it was some WR drops that killed us.  Smith is good for 1-2 a game now, LaFail too.   My only knock on Shula was I felt we should have ran more, like, a lot more.  We were getting 3-4 yards consistently so I really wanted Tolbert/Stew to keep pounding them.
