To this point Chud did a much better job of utilizing Cam than Shula has.  The defense is the biggest difference....you put this defense on our teams from 2011/2012 and those seasons are much different.

 

But its not just about utilizing Cam better, its about utilizing everyone on O better. Its a major reason why we went 2-8 under Chud for two seasons. It took late in both season for Chud to get the running game going.

 

Shula has been more balanced and it has helped rest the D so they can do their thing. Cam having awesome passing and running numbers is great for fantasy owners and for people trying to argue which QB is better than who. But football is still about winning and losing and were winning with Shula. Meanwhile Chud has gone pass happy up in Cleveland, traded away their "star" RB and has a losing record once again, his offense up in Cleve actually has a worse ranking in points scored (26th) at this point than they had last year under Brad Childress (24th). In fact, Shulas O (15th, we were 12th prior to the 9ers) is actually even ahead of where Chuds (18th) was in scoring last year with essentially the same roster on O. Cleveland also has a pretty decent defense and decent special teams too, it's a major reason why they have some of their wins too.

 

Just look at our RB and WR stats to see how balanced we are.

You are telling me that if this years team had last years defense that we would be 6-3?

Then I misunderstood you.

As far as Shula costing a game - it's possible but then most OC's will cost a team at some time and as far as not knowing how to counter 3-4 defenses, it may be as much Cam as his play calling. Not saying it is but Cam doesn't face them very often so it must be harder for him to read them.

I have to admit, I wasn't exactly thrilled when I heard he had been promoted but I have been pleasantly surprised. I guess we'll find out what he's made of real quick with the Patriot's, Jet's and Saints games coming up.

Nothing personal but I hope you are wrong.

I hope I'm wrong too. He's better than I expected, but he still leaves much to be desired. I know our offensive talent is somewhat limited, with WR hands, o line woes and whatnot so it's not a true representation of Shula's ability.

But we have several huge games against 3-4 teams (including three in a row in weeks 14-16). Hopefully Shula (or Cam) gains a little understanding before then.

Some of you think ur more important than u actually are. That's what makes this place miserable at times and why so many just lurk. There are no rankings on here bro and believe me when I say ur not that important Chuck. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I guess if trying to belittle other Panther fans to try to compensate for ur small ego is what fuels ur fire. Then whatever. The play calling has been fine. If receivers stopped dropping balls that hit them in the numbers it would have looked a lot better today.

 

This. Im still pissed about Smitty dropping passes he has got to clean that up, cant be making these mistakes against teams like the Pats and Saints.

Agreed 100%. If we continue to drop passes we will eventually lose an important game because of this weakness. I am all aboard the draft a wide receiver bandwagon for the 2014 draft. We absolutely have to get a #1.
