Only the poor fugs that have been in for 30 years and have been completely brainwashed are willing to die for you. The other 99% are just doing the job they are ordered to do. I'm sorry if a dissenting opinion really hurts your feelings that much.

It's not that the opinion is dissenting, it's just that it's so self indulgent and ill considered that it makes thinking men cringe. But you're not the first person to have your particular take on service. The world's full of ideologues who have a disparaging opinion of the military - that is, until they need them. So go ahead and dodge the service. That's your right - one bought and paid for by the blood and sacrifice of others who understand that being a good citizen requires giving, not just taking, from the society that bred them. I was, and still am, a United States Marine, and I truly believe it to be the finest thing I have ever done in my life. I have and will defend your right to be the way you are, but I also reserve the right to consider you beneath me and anyone else who has worn their nation's uniform.

No, because there would be no pawns if people stopped drinking the kool aid and stopped enlisting, which is why I have a problem with the glorification of the US Military in the first place. They could out to poor areas, in poor high schools promising these kids a way out. Its sickening.

i vehemently oppose the u.s.'s hegemonic policies that result in the scooping-up of those kids, sustainable only through an intense campaign of military glorification. but blaming individual soldiers is fuging retarded (and also presumes that the average person should subscribe to the notion that militaries serve no function, which is equally retarded.)

Not to compare you to a drug dealer, but I think drug dealers are pawns as well. They don't, but I do. I won't stop you from doing whatever you see fit, but I have the right to disagree. I hope you are happy and content with your decision to serve. I wasn't, will never be, and feel enlightened with what I've learned since leaving. However, I wish you no harm, and good luck to you.

When inner city kids join gangs, do we not blame them? What's the difference? I'm actually curious to know.

It would be different if we actually used the Military to protect, and only protect the United States and its people, and not to protect Corporate interests around the world. I guess that's to much to ask for though, and I need to shoot myself for having such a ridiculous opinion.

Even if one were to agree that the military was protecting corporate interests, what evidence do you provide that they aren't protecting the US and its citizens?

They aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

Honorable Discharge and I'm now enjoying college life with the GI Bill that I worked for. I have the right to voice my opinion. You have the right to disagree.

Right.

And who said you can't voice your opinion? Nobody. So stop with the "poor me" victimhood. You have the right to act like a toolbag and I have the right to call you one.
