The 5 most disappointing losses in Panthers history

Well that's 2 of us who remember the bite of that loss.

Cabinet door below the kitchen sink is still part broken where I kicked it after that game.

Fug that day. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200501020car.htm

7 point favorite, win and we're in, still furious.

Was at that game....they announced over the loud speaker that the team that we needed to lose(I don't remember who it was at the moment) lost right before our last drive and the entire stadium went wild!!! Only to have our hearts broken

Yes, that was my first game at Bank of America stadium, I hadn't seen the team live since the Clemson days. We all knew Moose was leaving for big money and he had a dominant second half. Our defense really choked that day.

I think a lot of people over look, or don't remember the first loss in Panther history. 1995 week 1, inaugural season loss to Mylanta. Overtime thriller. I remember Willie Green catching a pass in the corner of the end zone to send the game in overtime. Just to have our hearts broken in OT. We have forever lived up to the moniker of Cardiac Cats.

AZ 08/early 09 is tops, imo.  All that momentum, the intuitive feeling we'd crush them....gone in practically an instant.

The problem is, there's a lot of 1B, imo...the September Falcons game last year was crushing, but so was the Super Bowl, so was opening day against Filthadelphia in 09, so was frankly most of our Bills losses, Giants '08...

Anyone remember 1999 game at Pittsburgh? Second to last game. Seiferts first year. The offense had taken off down the stretch and we basically needed to win that game and beat the saints the next week to get in the playoffs.

The steelers were a bad team that year and had Mike Tomzcak at qb. A huge snowstorm came up in the second half and Jerome Bettis ran all over us resulting in a crushing loss.

The next week we were forced to run up the score on Jake Delhomme and the saints in a desperate effort to win the "point differential" tie breaker. We crushed them but lost out to Green Bay.

Had we just beaten the lowly steelers a win against the saints would have been enough.

I guess the Super Bowl loss didn't hit me quite as hard because I never expected us to win. I just wanted to NOT be embarrassed. I don't think we were; we converted many a doubter in that game.

Same with the Seattle game in 2005. We were already crippled heading into that game and it got worse during the game. Seattle had all the momentum, Alexander couldn't be stopped that year, and the game was in Seattle. I remember reading that the Panthers were practicing with jet engines around the field to simulate the crowd noise. I knew we couldn't overcome all those odds. But I sat there faithfully, interception after interception with the slightest bit of hope for a 4th quarter miracle.

But 2008 was our year. I was a million percent confident we would hoist the Lombardi that year. That AZ game physically and emotionally sickened me. Had I known the downward spiral was only beginning, who knows what I would have done.

The 2004 Saints game is definitely one that crushed me hard. Then they beat us again the first game of 2005. I hate the Saints.

The 2008 Playoff game is of course up there too. I was working 3rd shift at that time and I got pissed and left for work early so I wouldn't have to finish the game.

The Super Bowl of course.

The NFC Championship game in Seattle from the 2005 season. I was sure we were going to win and be right back in the super bowl. Really a tough game.

I'm trying to think of a 5th one that really crushed me but I'm having trouble. I remember there were a few games in '01 where after it was over I was crushed because we were so close every game and lost. I can't remember any specifics though I was only 14 or 15 that year.

2002 game against the cowboys? Up 13-0 with about 3 minutes left. Galloway burned us for about 80 yards then we just fell apart. Gave them the ball back and lot them march right up the field.

I think we were still above .500 at the time and that game made that losing streak go on forever.
