Requires a Nor'easter or system from gulf.  I've never seen a system that originates out west/north west develop much for us in Raleigh area.  Always dies at mountains/piedmont area. 

 

 

This right here.  If it is coming straight from the west no snow.  I have seen Winston Salem / Greensboro and Raleigh get snow from system coming from the northwest but most of the times it is systems that come over Atlanta or off the Atlantic Ocean

if it snows in Atlanta then highly likely it snows here. rarely if ever do we get snow from the mtns and eastward.
