San Francisco Newpaper: Cam Is Better Than Kaepernick

I'm not gonna argue the point of Cam vs. Kaepernick....but just for some perspective....

Grant and his papa Lowell are widely considered total hacks in the Bay Area. ALWAYS incredibly negative and typically say stuff just to get attention. Think Skip Bayless whenever you read anything either one of them writes.

To help understand just how true this is, I was already 99% positive it was written by a Cohn as soon as I saw the title.

While they may be idiots, it's a 100% true article.

It's the test of time, you put Cam on Niners, CK on Panthers, which team gets better.

I said it when the Niners fumbled away a loss to the Giants, and then same when the Niners had to turn off the lights to keep from being embarrassed.

Cam wins them the Superbowl both times.

uh....

Weapons have been the problem all year.

Boldin is too slow to beat really good man-to-man corners (Sherman, Peterson) and none of the other receivers can get open. Vernon is a stud but got hurt vs Seattle and didn't play at all vs the Colts. The Colts were able to double Boldin and NOBODY WAS OPEN.

Now...once Manningham and Crab come back its a different story, but right now the 49ers have been LACKING weapons in the passing game.

Id probably trade our entire WR corps for just Davis and Boldin. Thats how stacked they are.

I understand your point...but I don't realy think it's a fair argument.

Kap was inhuman last year in the Playoffs and SB. His passing targets were Crabtree, Vernon, Delanie Walker, and Randy Moss. Before Manningham was hurt, he played very well as the #2 WR.

Vs the Colts this year, NONE of those guys lines up to catch a pss for the 49ers. NONE OF THEM.

Boldin was signed to be a #2 WR. Something of a security blanket. The Crab got hurt. Manningham still recovering from injury. Moss is gone. Walker is a Titan.

The Niners have struggled all year with their pass catching weapons. We haven't seen what Kap can do yet this year because he'd had just a shadow of a real receiving corps.

Manningham comes back this week. Vernons hammy is getting better. Crabtree finally started practicing.

Its really tough to judge a QB under pressure when all of his targets are wearing jackets that look like the opposing teams uniforms. I can't say what Cam would do in SF, but the talk about how SF is so much better at every position seems to make people think they have no weaknesses. Not true. WR right now is and has been a huge hole all year. I really want to see how Kap plays in the latter part of the season here when he gets his horses back.

Facts are still facts.....like Cam's completion % vs CK under pressure, going through progressions, etc

Yeah...but don't count on a Cohn to accurately explain WHY a stat seems to say what it does.

For example, while the pressure stat is correct it wouldn't tell you that the Niners have had trouble with receivers not getting open all year. They were looking at trades for Josh Gordon and Hakeem Nicks but ended up staying pat because they knew they were getting Manningham and Crabtree back.

It wouldn't tell you that when blitzed Kaps QB rating this year is 108. It wouldn't tell you his QBR over the past few games has been 99.0 and 99.8. (thats the ESPN stat that I typically don't lend much credence to, but at least it accounts for rushing yards and situational play).

What those stats or the idiotic Cohns examination wouldn't tell you is that alot of the "one-read" stuff he talks about is the DESIGN OF THE OFFENSE. Harbaughs system that he started at USD with, moved to Stanford and now with the 49ers allows the QB to make almost all of his decision Pre-snap. They wait till only a few seconds are on the clock on every play to force the D to declare their intent. This offense makes it easier for a QB to make decisions and is a big reason why Josh Johnson and Andrew Luck were so successful in college. You will see Kap change the play at the line very, very often just before the snap because he is making the read pre-snap so will most often throw to that first read.

IE...he doesn't usually move to a second read because the read has already been made.

None of this is meant as a Kap>Cam argument. I'm just saying the Cohns are morons and know zilch about what they see or what they are talking about. They say stuff to get attention and you would do well to lend little credence to their reading of the "facts".

Why write this article? They write it because they know it'll piss off Niner fans and get hits to their site. Plain and simple.

Newton doesn't have all star WRs buddy....so your WR defense doesn't explain away the drastic difference. What does is Cam has played a lot more football in the NFL, been asked to make tougher throws much more often, has been given a huge load on his shoulders for 2 years...and is now ahead of Kapernick in that area. He should be....he is.

Sigh.

At what point in what I said was I making the case that Kap was better than Cam?

My point was that you can't trust the Cohns reading of the "facts". They decide what the outcome is going to be before they write the article and then look for stuff to support that.

Has Cam been better under pressure? Yes. Is there more to it than simply "Cam better under pressure"? Yes. Kap has been much better than Cam against the blitz this year while Cam has been much better than Kap when NOT blitzed. Figure that one out. LOL.

You can make stats say almost anything. The Cohns tho will cherry pick to make the argument they want to tell. THAT is my point.

Ted Ginn might be our best receiver this season.

Let that sink in

Well...he's playing far better right now than he ever did in SF.  :)

To be honest tho...there have been times this year when I was pretty regrettful that they let him walk.

Crabtree: Out all year

Boldin: Good, but slow as hell

Manningham: out all year

Patton: good lookin rookie out with broken foot

Williams: Completely useless.

Baldwin: Invisable....which is hard when your 6'4" and 230lbs.

If the Niners had Ginn they could just run him on fly patterns all day just to draw the safety over. none of the guys they have now can even do that.

The reason guy aren't getting open in SF is because Kaep only goes through his first and second progression. That is why Crabtree and Manningham won't matter that much.

Meanwhile Cam has done something Kaep couldn't. Make Ginn look like a viable receiver.

Cam makes his WRs better. I guess Kaep can't do the same in SF.

:cam:
