ESPN Upset Watch: Panthers over 49ers

Stopping the SF running game has to be the #1 goal and task for this front 7.  I feel like we can at least contain it.  I worry that they will have an advantage being at home here.  My main concern is our ability to get to Colin K when he does drop back.  Our pass rush has been nasty is spots this year, but more and more we are seeing QBs get the ball out quickly and move methodically downfield with good balance.  Then there is the x-factor of Kaepernick's scrambling ability.  Unless we can maintain that 25% TFL stat against their run game, 3+ ypc would probably be enough to allow them to keep at it.

Anything but a total shutdown (like what we did to AP) will allow them to stay balanced on offense and that worries me.  Obviously they don't do a lot through the air, but they will pick their spots and may only need the passing game to convert 3rd downs and in the red zone.

It is a great matchup and probably the most compelling game in the entire league this week.  A win would be absolutely huge for us (as it will bring our record even with SF and give us another conference win in the wild card race).

It could be that this contest comes down to which QB can lead his team to victory in the 4th quarter.  At some point this season, Cam is going to be tested here and a west coast game vs a very good team seems like a strong possibility.

When this Panthers team wins a close game in the 4th quarter, then I think we can safely assume that this team is playoff caliber.  Or we could just blow them out like we've been doing...that would be fine.

If we win this one it will turn the whole NFL upside down. For one thing the Panthers will have bullied  their way into the elite company that every expert thinks belongs to Hawks, Niners Pats Saints Chiefs and Packers. With Bolts and Bengals sniffing around the edges the Panthers just don't belong to that club.

Lets bust down that door and announce ourselves  and just like 'THE shinning" say guess who's heeere.
