notes from interview

mood in locker room after ARZ game: we knew we were just a play or two away from being a winning club

on Rivera being on hot seat: we knew we just had to take care of business

difference on defense: McDerp doing a great job of gameplanning, offense putting up points early making teams more one dimensional, defense in their comfort zone.  Offense and defense feeds off each other

on playing OLB and then switching to MLB last year: gives lots of credit to Beason and other vet guys on the defense

on torch being passed to Keek: I'm obviously not there yet, my objective is to get to the point where those guys are (Urlacher, Ray Lewis)

how he has improved on pass coverage: looking at game film and the dline goes a long way

on rookie hazing: I had to carry helmets here and there, the vets were really helpful

is there a line for hazing? "when you get personal that's when the line has to be drawn"

Really a quick and pretty standard interview.  I think being late in the show it had to be a quick interview.  Either way it's nice to get a Panther in the national spotlight for positive reasons.

Go back to week 5, 1-3 after losing to Arizona, what was the mood, how were you feeling?

Knew we had a good team, just a few (5-6) plays that made the difference. Would've won more games if they went differently.

How did you feel about talk about Rivera on the hot seat?

We just knew we had to go out there and play like we could.

Biggest defence difference?

McDermott has good gameplan, lets us play fast and to our strengths. Offense jumping ahead on opponents makes them one dimensional and helps the defense a lot.

Do the defense and offense feed off each other?

Yeah. Defense forces a 3 and out and offense goes down and scores.

Is 49er game a statement game?

Big game, out there. 49ers have a strong O-line, strong team. I'm excited.

How big was the MLB to OLB adjustment?

It was different but Davis, Beason, Senn and Anderson helped a lot.

Was it easy to go straight back to MLB again?

Jon was very helpful, didn't look down on Luke. Did what he could to help Luke out, he appreciated the help.

You're a humble guy but people are passing Ray Lewis' torch to you, what's your reaction?

I'm not there yet. One season and into season two, my objective is to get to that point. I have to keep working and learning and playing hard and see where it gets me.

What's the biggest change on pass coverage?

Looking through coverages on film and knowing what's going to happen. Narrow down what routes they're going to run and with a good pass rush you can make a play on the ball.

What was hazing for you like?

Carried a couple helmets but that's all that happened in Carolina. Didn't pick up dinner tabs or anything like that.

Where's the line drawn at hazing?

When it gets personal.

How do you get good at fly fishing?

Gotta get the cast down, that's the hardest part. Once you're out there you're just outside with your thoughts. I like Northern Ohio and Idaho, did a float trip there.
