Carolina Panthers - "The Flavor of the Month, Going to lose to SF"

We're playing the Super Bowl runner-up on the road, who just happens to be 6-2 and playing lights out right now.  Why in the world would we be favored to win?  I think the spread being less than a touchdown is showing us respect.

The Panthers have a chance to truly be in the national conversation as a contender if they win this game.  Given the last few years of this franchise, that is all we can ask for.  I am hoping for a win, but I will not be devastated with a loss.

We need to go 1-1 over the next 2 games to stay in the playoff hunt.  This game will certainly be a barometer of how well the team can perform in a hostile environment with pressure on us.

The conversation is going to be about Cam, and he is certainly going to have to play well for us to win.  I expect the offensive line to be under duress and Cam to have to improvise.  Kaepernick does not scan the field the best, but if his offensive line gives him time, I do think he can exploit our secondary.

I think the Panthers are going to have to commit to the run game and be willing to take some deep shots, which we haven't done a lot this year.  I think the 49ers gameplan will be to try to stop the run and take away the intermediate throws.  If I were gameplanning the Panthers, that's what I would do.

The think the Panthers gameplan will be similar.  Teams are not biting as hard on the read-option, so QB's like Kaepernick (and Cam) are not seeing guys as open on deep shots as much as they were the last couple of years.

Turnovers and mistakes are going to be very crucial I think because I don't see either team being able to run up 30 points like they have over the last few weeks.  I may be surprised, but I see this being a 20-17 type of game.

My fear is that our secondary is going to have a couple of bad lapses on deep balls, and the 49ers will prevail at home.  This game and the Saints on the road are the toughest 2 games left IMO.  I still think 10-6 is a realistic possibility even if they lose this weekend.

If the Panthers do win this weekend, I will be 100% sold on them as a playoff team, as will the national media.  Go Panthers!

shlereth said "it was much closer than the score said... it was 17-10 deep in the 4th quarter"

You know? I was tripping when he said that mess. It's almost like they don't watch the games and rely on their high lights and go from there. Not a big fan of Shlereth or the rest of ESPN's crew. That's why I fux with NFL Network only.

Don't mind their opinions, most non-Panther fans are gonna choose the Niners.

What I don't like is the subtlety in Schlereth's "Cam struggled throwing the ball AGAIN."

The thing is though they act like kaepernick hasn't struggled in throwing the ball this season especially against good defenses. It's the biggest reason why they have dialed back his passing and are rated last in that regard and are instead focusing on the run game.

Welp, I could care less if Cam actually struggled or not. Takes a team to win in football.

Brees went 30/51 for 382 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs.

Geno went 8/19 for 115 yards. 0 TDs and 0 INTs.

The Jets won the game.

I haven't watched a single Carolina game this season. I have only read a few articles at BR, watched a few highlights at NFL.Com and ESPN.Com, and read through a few comments at this--your--forum. Based on that very limited sample, I am worried about your team's D and nothing else. If your front 7 can stop our O line from doing it's run-blocking job, I think this game is a wrap in your favor. Otherwise this game is ours; and convincingly. Not a blowout. Not a last-minute defensive stand. To me, it feels like you are chasing better playoff seeding, while we chase the number 1 seed -- which I think will be cemented by a Week 14 win over the Seachickens.

Anyway, the whole reason for posting here is to make sure I get on your forum to predict my NINERS win so that when I return on Monday to crow it won't look so bad, from a trolling perspective. And yes, I will be back if we lose. I won't make excuses. But I'll gladly listen to any one of your excuses as to why the Panthers lost to my MIGHTY MIGHTY NINERS!

So, without resorting to team & individual player statistics or reciting the illogical conclusions drawn from who we beat, who you beat, who we blewout, who you blewout, who you almost beat, and who we got blown out by, I'm predicting a CONVINCING WIN: SF 27-20 (1 VD TD, 1 Hunter TD, 1 Manningham TD, and 2 FGs; for youse, 2 TDs and 2 FGs).

I find it weird how the media can praise the panthers then say they aren't good enough to compete with san fran...

I didn't get that out of their comments as written.  SF is also on a win streak, they have playoff experience and they are chasing Seattle like we are New Orleans.  They are at home.  We, on the other hand, have won 4 games convincingly, but we have played only 1 team the caliber of SF--and we lost it at home.  While they have injuries at WR, their reserves and Vernon Davis are better than our starters.  Their OL is awesome and their defensive front is solid.  We have our 2011 OL by default starting for us and have moved a DT to backup G.  I don't expect to win and no expert in his right mind would pick the Panthers to win.

The flavor of the month comment is because people are buzzing about Carolina.  The Panthers--not the press--have to prove that this is no spurt as we are historically known to do, usually at the end of the season.

I do not know why people care what the press says about us.  However, they are not dissing the Panthers.  For the first time since about 2009 they are talking about the defense, the QB, the special teams, etc.  We are a small market and maybe this causes a Napoleonic complex, but I want to stay beneath the radar.  I don't want parades and accolades for winning 4 games leading into week 10.

Glad that you are coming back if you lose.  You are in a good position to talk smack about a midseason game.  Your 49ers had a bye, 2 weeks to prepare. You are at home, we travel 3000 miles.  You are getting players back, while we have 5 Guards who are injured (Silatolu, Williams, Scott, Kugbila, Byers).  You have a great defensive front.  You were in the Super Bowl last year, we went on a season-ending win streak to finish 7-9 and save jobs. The fact that you are talking smack to us reveals fear.

If the Panthers lose, they probably should have and there is no shame in it.  The Niners have about every advantage possible going in.  A loss will not end anything for us, and if we lose a close game, it means simply that we could not overcome all of the adversity to play with a team that is considered one of the best in the league.  The panthers are on the rise and the Niners are not stopping that fact.  IF THE NINERS LOSE, however, it will be devastating to the organization.  A game against an upstart in your own back yard and you could not defend your turf, your title. Heads will roll, fans will shed tears of anger and shame, and in the distance, a seahawk's jubilant cry will fill the Bay area with the reality of impending doom.

Enjoy the game.

Panthers 17-16.

Fear can be a good motivator. I don't agree that it would be devestating. We've lost some big games during the season -- see last year's Giants and Seachickens -- and been alright. I do, however, think that a loss to a very good defense will cause many of us to openly question how we can possibly exepct to go very far in the playoffs. And yes, the tears of our fans will bring much joy to the seachicken fans -- pox on them! Hahahaha.

Frankly, I hate the Seahawks.  Russell Wilson is overrated.  Pete Carroll might be the luckiest person on earth, dating back to the Green Bay game with the replacement refs.   They are cocky and loud for a group who has done little.

I was exaggerating the impact that a loss would have on you, but you do have the advantage in many ways.

After this week, win out and take the West.

Honest question.

Who is more overrated as a QB? Kaepernick, or Bob?

They both take off after their primary read is covered, they are both protected from having to win games by the rest of their team. They both have demonstrated the same poor attitudes that people so desperately try to pin on Cam, while all the while receiving total immunity for such tantrums (lol at Kaepernick's hissy fit earlier in the year)
