So youre acknowledging this isnt in the best interest of the team then?

We may lose, but at least we didnt go and do anything not convervative like someone who has played the position before AMIRYTE OR AMIRYTE?!

If we are dreadfully thin at Guard does it make sense to hang on to a DT with no shot at playing instead of bringing the PS guy up and replacing him on the PS with another guard?

 

I don't disagree with that in the slightest. I'm wondering what G-man's thinking too. But I'm not believing this is some conspiracy to hang on to Fua, or that he's going to see the field at RG. This was a drill, they just needed a stiff (literally.)

 

Why we're not actively looking to upgrade the offensive line is beyond me.

Who exactly do you think is still unemployed at midseason that's worth anything?

The only guy that might have had any value (just because of past familiarity) is the guy they already signed.

You can go the "there's gotta be somebody better" route, but there really isn't. Other teams with OL issues are facing the same thing.

Do you happen to be related to Fua?

It may be that Gettleman doesn't trust his inherited scouting staff fully (not that he should). Starting to think he may clean out that house this offseason.

I don't know how that could be inferred from this situation; after all, Gettleman made his bones in pro player scouting, and this is the same staff that he has worked with to bring in Ginn, Mitchell, Blackburn, etc. I don't think he suddenly forgot how to assess the rest of the league just because he became GM. Maybe Gettleman has a serious blind side regarding offensive line assessment, or maybe he's trying to save as much cap space as possible for next year. I don't know, but I don't think the pro scouting department would have anything to do with it. Granted, I'm sure there will be shakeups in the offseason.

Saving money isn't a valid excuse, he could release Fua and sign an actual G for the exact same money.

edit: If he has to play O-line, it's time to take Cam out, and go wildcat all game

 

double edit: even though there's a very low chance it happens, can you imagine a line with Piggy and Fua playing together. Pretty terrifying stuff... may not sleep tonight.

      I mean, you can use that "logic," but the problem is that most practice squad players, backups or average guys don't put the play on film that Wharton did when given their opportunities.  Perhaps you'll end up right, but I don't think that just because a guy has been in a rotation makes him inherently less productive because he gets more snaps. I will say that the KC fans I've seen on social media loved him, and considered him their second best DT,  regardless of his "rotational" status, and generally considered him a dawg, so I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt until he shows otherwise.

      Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
