Getting Defensive - 49ers Edition

I would disagree on YPA, maybe total yards, but YPA is a pretty good indicator over the course of a season, on how well a QB plays.

Top 5 YPA (started all games)

1. Rodgers

2. Manning

3. Rivers

4. Brees

5. Kaepernick

10. Newton

Total QBR

3. Kaepernick (75.2)

12. Cam newton (59.0)

I'm not saying one is better than the other, I think they are pretty close to a toss up, but they are being asked to do different things right now. The originally argument was about efficiency only

YPA is not a good indicator of how well a QB plays. It is an indicator of how effective the passing game is relative to the number of attempts.  Things that influence the YPA include YAC, the routes your receivers run, the number of big plays you have and the way the defenses play you.

Plus rankings are often not good measures given that each ranking difference is not equal.  For example the difference between 1 and 5 is .8 yards and the difference between 5 and 10 is .5 yards.

Most people look at TD/Int Ratio as a good individual measure of the quarterback versus the passing game.  So Kaepernick has 9 TDs and 5 Ints or a ratio of  1.8 versus Cam has 13 TDs and 7 Ints or 1.85.

You are correct about YPA, but my original argument was about passing game efficiency, and how just completion percentage doesn't tell the full story.

I think the both guys are playing really close this year. They are being asked to do different things, and they are both playing pretty well.

I believe Cam is more relied on in his offense to make plays and score TDs than Kaep is for the 49ers.

I'm a diehard Panthers fan and I live in the bay area. I have watched every 49er game over the past 3 years because thats all they play out here. I am %100 positive we win this game if we stop the run. The 49ers are a team very similar to us, with the exception that they do run a lot out of the pistol formation. Even though they line up in the pistol formation they still run power runs and 2 tight end sets. We have to force this team into 2nd/3rd and long or we will lose.

I would say that is a pretty accurate statement. Fremont ey? I live in VA(outside of DC), but I was born and raised in Fremont. Die hard 49ers fan though. Good luck to you guys.

How do you stop the #1 rush in the league tho? We put 150 on the Cards #5 rush d. We put up 100 on Packers #4 rush d. The Panthets D is going to have to do more than stop the run. They have to contain Kaep, matchup with Davis, bracket Boldin, and find a way to win the LOS against the best oline they've faced all year. The Panthers D is going to have to be every bit as good as you guys think they are. Will see.

QBR ... YPA ... YAC ... Blah Blah Blah, all biased speculation and I really don't give a fug. I'm going to be at this game drunk as hell watching one of the best NFC match-ups of the year. Can't wait to see this peanut-headed tool get powned by Keek.

Lol. Either that or you're going to watch Newton sad face all night.

Psshhhh ... I don't know what your talking about. The insurance on Newton's smile alone is more than your life-insurance policy.

Too bad Ninercare is causing Cams smile insurance provider to cancels all its smile plans. After the Niners D checks him up he's gong to have pre-existing sadface condition.
