I spoke about his decline in YAC and vertical catches last year.....of course I caught hell for bringing it up.

meh, idk why it's that big of a deal. it's clear his role is changing, and if we bring in another receiver through the draft 89's role will likely diminish more if that guy turns out to be a solid number one.

and that's fine. donald driver spent a number of years on green bay's roster and played a limited - but critical - role in their early success with aaron rodgers and in their superbowl win. steve doesn't need to be a 1000k+ receiver anymore, he needs to be a 700yard slot receiver. he can be the best in the league at that.

Steve doesn't take 5 yard slants to the house anymore. The YAC has seen a major decline.

Just keep in mind Cam's numbers would be higher if our defense wasn't so stingy. Last week was our most hotly contested game since Arizona and it was over with 8 minutes left in the 4th. Most of our wins have been over in the 3rd.

I don't think it is one....

But I recall pointing out the change ticked people off. I think 89 can be a beast of a possession WR. 89 has to evolve to keep playing.....

agree. he used to be good for a target or two downfield every game, and now he's just not running those routes. ginn has taken that role.

it's resulted in less flash for steve personally, but a more balanced, effective offense as a whole. i'll take that.

Steve Smith deep routes are like Voltron's blazing sword. Of course you could just start every fight using it but it's better to wait till you really need it.   Shula is saving it for a special occasion.

You know, I hope every time he catches a ball that he breaks free and streaks down the sideline.

But father time does not discriminate. It catches up to everyone.  He drops passes 2 or 3 yrs ago he would never drop.  TD production down and yardage down.

I will be the first to admit, I want to say your are freaking crazy and spew venom but the reality is.  YOUR RIGHT.

Smitty should stay a Panther and could be serviceable in the slot but we need a new #1.
