Pretty sure you either go the full name or just "The City"

Most people referring to just the "city" are talking about New York City. Unless you are in the Bay area. San Francisco isn't that large or important for anything other than being the Gay Capital of the US.  Yes I like visiting there because I think Alcatraz is cool and riding a trolley is fun. There is plenty of things to do and place to see.  On the other hand, I didn't like walking up 6o degree hills, being accosted by homeless people at Union Square after dark, and having folks dressed up as statues pop out and try to scare the poo out of you for loose change at Fisherman's wharf.  I actually had the best time at Muir Woods seeing the giant redwoods.  As for the prices and traffic, it was ridiculous.  It is a good place to visit but I would never live there.

San Jose deserves more respect. People don't know that it actually has more people than SF does. Great sports city- Quakes, Sharks, (as noted above, niners moving to Santa Clara), A's may be moving there. Silicon Valley. No fuging hills or douchebags with sunglasses on foggy days.

I've driven 400 miles to San Francisco 3 times in the last year. It's not my favorite place to be. It's like Helen Keller taught everyone there how to drive.

Not all people in the Bay Area are stupid. In fact, everyone outside of the actual city of San Francisco (and the North Bay, fug them too) are decent people. The East Bay is awesome, John Madden lives one city over from me and E-40 is a city over the other way, next door to Tony La Russa.

 

But SF is the stupidest, most smug city I've ever been around. I annoy people when they say 'The City', because my automatic response is, 'San Jose is in the other direction'.

 

Anyone that knows the Bay Area knows, Silicon Valley is in the South Bay. The Peninsula has Facebook. All SF has fuging Twitter and a bunch bars. At least the East Bay has Chevron and poo.

 

I am sure living in SF it is cool for a minute or two, than just effing pointless after that. Point can be made exactly why the Niners are moving.

 

Lastly, all the hotties live in the East Bay. From the ghetto booties in Oakland/Hayward, to the cowgirl and valley girls in Pleasanton/Livermore. East Bay is where it's at. And everyone over here hates the fuging niners.
