Steve Smith Renaissance man?

Gotta love this.

Firmly embedded as the Walt Whitman of trash talk, Smith called an audible with Falcons rookie cornerback Desmond Trufant in Sunday's 34-10 win over Atlanta.

"I told him early in the game that I respected his brothers and I respected him," said Smith, per ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure. "The Trufants are always good. You can tell (Desmond's) brothers have taught him a lot of stuff. He's patient. Getting in and out of breaks, he's very fluid."

Trufant, in turn, emerged with his own take on Smith, saying: "That's what the game is all about: respect. That's what we play for. It's humbling because I've been watching him since I was young. ... That's just very humbling."

why is he a renaissance man?

renaissance man = polymath = translated from greek "having learned much" = constantly evolving and growing and an unwavering commitment to do things better...finding a better way to get done what needs done, esp. to fit a situation.

    • Bryce put it in a spot only his guy could get it only for David Moore to drop it. T_T Tremble and Horn both struggled yesterday and that killed me since they're two of my favourite players. Tommy knows he has to come down with this one. Folks were understandably saying that JT would've caught that had he not gotten hurt a few plays earlier. The more I look at this play, the more I think that Bryce made the right decision throwing it out the back of the endzone. He could have tried to laser it in to Thielen, but that safety is lurking awfully close inside. Insuring the field goal here after a 44sec drive to end the half was the right move.
    • Except Bryce was the main reason we were in it
    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
