PS4 or Xbox1?

I agree with just about everything you said. With that said, expect to be called a minless drone by PSC and Swan because you wan't the easy "power on and play" experience. I doubt I'll ever grow out of PC gaming because I can't stand playing shooters and mmos on without a mouse and keyboard, but I can certainly understand why someone who's probably working 40 hrs + a week, may or may not have wife/kids and only games for several hours a week as a release would prefer the console route....

PCs are the better system, but like someone said I cannot just keep going on with the required upgrades to keep a solid system rolling.  Graphics are better on the pc.  You can do more things control-wise on the pc.  I look at the xbox as just a quick/dirty "get with buddies and kill stuff/zombies" with in addition to streaming movies/tv shows via Amazon Prime or .mp4s I may/may not have copies of.  I used to be a huge gamer into some ww2 stuff and would spend countless hours and late nights playing.  Introduction of kids and I just cannot do that anymore...nor can I show that I have a propensity to playing that much.  :)  The xbox One will provide the same sort of things I get from the 360, but I'm really looking forward to the tv interfacing and single source entertainment console.

We really shouldn't be "arguing?". We're Panther, Trojan, and Lakers fans. That's a rare combination.

I guess my post was somewhat demeaning, and (I'll admit), pretty arrogant. I'm not really a PC elitist (I do about half console, half PC), but I do think console gaming is essentially turning into PC gaming. Wait, no, consoles are turning into PCs. That to me is pretty ridiculous, and obviously is the reason why I advocate PC gaming more. There's never getting over the fact that PC gaming is on a smaller scale (monitors are still relatively small compared to TVs), which is why I still console game. Yes, I will most likely end up getting an Xbox One, but after that, I'm not so sure.

I think its really easy for PC gamers to go all high and mighty too often.  I agree with C47, they have their place with the consoles.  I am a console gamer.  Does that make me a sheep?  I don't think it does.  Frankly, I can't afford to build a good PC.  Please, don't give me the "for $400 you can build a gaming PC that runs laps around a console" in regards to the newest generation.  360/PS3, sure, but there is much to be seen regarding the consoles.  I've done the "pricing builds" and I always come in well over that because: 1. I need a good case that isn't 4 feet tall.  2. I like my PCs to have SSDs (which kind of blow price up completely.  3.  I like good video cards, and I tend to go Intel for PC processors because I don't just like to game.  So no, $400-$500 won't get me what I want.

On the other hand, a console experience is pretty straight forward.  Maybe I'm getting lazy in my age here, but I like to grab controller, turn it on, play games with minimal fuss (I'm looking at you PS3 with your crazy updates/too long installs!).  PCs are like expensive sports cars in that you need to maintain them to a greater degree than you do a console.  Prior to my RROD, my xbox ran like a champ.  Fixed the RROD, runs like a champ.  I can play for HOURS (which I did this weekend), and nothing except hot air.  PCs, you can get too crazy with your setting, your clocks, your ram configurations.  Lets not get into driver support or OS issues, ect. that effect PCs in general.  You can tweek for hours to find the right balance of performance versus shinies.  That was cool when I was 20...and even then there weren't as many tools like today.

The steambox will be an interesting development.  I want to see more.  From what I've seen of the PS4 and XboxOne, I'm going to continue to call it a "wait and see."  I got really jazzed looking a the next gen graphics, but the reviews are saying the same thing "pretty doesn't always make it better."  I'm happy with my 360/PS3, and LOTRO on my laptop.  I still want to see something that really says "This is what next gen really feels like."  Not another clone.

I'd say the PC gamer demographic is pretty "high" and "mighty". Definitely a different demographic than that of console gaming. Steambox is definitely an interesting development, but I don't think it can compete with Microsoft/Sony. PC gaming has its niche in the gaming community, and I don't expect too many people to buy into this Steam box.

Graphics can only appeal so much, and while they do look great, Sony/Microsoft are trying to garner more attention through these "all-in-one" statements. I mean, cool, I can Skype, Facebook, tweet on the TV, but really, is it that necessary? I think what can really turn the tides are both systems' movement sensor specs. It'll be interesting to see the future of console gaming.

PS4 fug xbox making you pay a fee for used games

At least initally...this pushback is coming from the developers..but PS4 just made some changes to their policy but are backtracking a bit.

http://www.justpushstart.com/2013/11/sony-denies-change-policy-selling-used-playstation-4-games/

"Everybody knows what Sony’s stance on used games and the ability to sell them for the PlayStation 4 has been for awhile now. This stems from their announcement that you can do pretty much anything you did in past generations at E3, including them making a little promo video poking fun at Microsoft’s decision not to at the time. However, a little bit of an uproar occurred today when somebody noticed a change in Sony’s terms of service on their website.

The terms of service on the Sony website now has a section that says “”You must not resell either Disc-based Software or Software Downloads, unless expressly authorized by us and, if the publisher is another company, additionally by the publisher.” This obviously seems to differ greatly from their previous stance and an odd change to change right before the launch of the new console."

They've already debunked this. Basically buying a disc based game is you being authorized to resell your game....

This the stance I've seen both take. Its up to the publisher not the console. I bet first party publishers won't do it ever. 3rd party though.. That might be interesting to see who is first to all you to double pay on used games or if they will stick to the current model with dlc.

My rrod cost me $15 and two hours to fix. When a pic part goes bad (ram, hdd, video card, ect.), it's going to be a lot more time and money than that. But I do get that you, PSC, really don't like the new consoles and belive that steam will be better. I look forward to seeing what happens over the next year or so.

meanwhile, Steam is developing a way for you to share your digital copies of games with your friends

also, RROD fuged your 'power and play' model right up

Yup, because no PC has ever given the blue screen of death or refused to fire up before.

Lucky you then. Hardware failure is a fact of life for a computer owner.

This "nut" really hopes steam box is successful, and I also hope that all video game systems perform well. Fundamentally a strong video game ecosystem (fell like such a douche using that term) only helps those who love games, which I think all of us fall into based on our participation in this thread.

Looking at the PS4 launch event last night, and the week's worth of run up, I am still waiting to see a system worth dropping my cash on.

You can fix a PC problem a hell of a lot easier than a console problem.

Speaking of, seems like tons of people are having problems with the PS4. HDMI ports are fuged and they can't get it to work. I'd reccommend staying away at least until the hardware revision.

Besides, there are no fuging games out for it.
