Ted Ginn - Difference Maker

This Sunday Panthers wide receiver Ted Ginn returns to San Francisco for the first time since being allowed to leave.

 

Ginn spent the past three seasons with San Francisco where he was typecast as a return specialist and forgotten as a wide receiver. In 2012 he had only 2 balls thrown his way, he caught both.

 

This season as a Panther Ginn has proven he can be dangerous in both the return game and as a receiver. Ginn has racked up 21 receptions which in 8 games which equals his reception count in San Francisco over the past two years combined. Clearly, Ginn has taken advantage of the Panthers vertical offense.

 

This Sunday Ginn may have added value. Twice this season the Panthers roster featured a key player who previously played for the Panthers opponent. Chase Blackburn came from the Giants and Quintin Mikell came from the Rams. In both cases, the Panthers were well prepared and won the game.

 

Ginn will have the ear of Ron Rivera and Sean McDermott this week in practice, While game tape can provide information on play calling and execution, former players can provide valuable intel on intangibles. In a game that features two stout defenses, a seemingly insignificant bit of information on tendencies could be the difference between a win and a loss.

This game will be a great test for us.

Plane and simple, if we beat the 49ers, the media's story will be how the panthers are the most dangerous team in the NFL. This will happen overnight. (Yes I know, F the media). But this team backs up everything we say we will do on the field.

I actually think that having the media back and hype up the 2013 Panthers is a good thing! They seem to be responding to it very well as it gives them even more swag.

Ohh and back to the OP, yes having Mr. Ginn will prove to be an excellent source of game planning and play making!

This isn't your daddy's Carolina Panthers. As mentioned above, these guys love the attention and seem to play on it. Long gone are the days where they seemed to poo the bed on the big stage once the pressure got up to them and preferred coasting under the radar.

Say what you will but in today's day and age of social media them playing this way is huge. The more exposure this team gets the better. The better the perspective. The better the fan experience (for the home team at least) we've seen this year these guys playing their best football when the fans get loud and rowdy. This team gives them something to get loud about. The better the prime time scheduling and it will help to lure free agents in. These guys may give a small (not talking 5 million under market value) discount for the chance to play for a team that gets exposure, primetime games and is lead by one of the premier super stars in the game with Cam Newton.

Get excited. It's still very premature but this coming game could very easily be the start of the Carolina Panthers' dynasty.... Sounds good doesn't it?

Woah, the last time i Heard the word dynasty in connection with the Panthers is when Kerry Colins said it just before he imploded.

 

We have a head coach who is showing promise as well as OC who is coming around.Throw in an excellent DC and we have reason to hope but leave the dynasty talk till later, maybe after we've actually done something.

I would like to see Cam TRY and over throw him.  I think he gets side by side with a defender.   He will blow by him.  Cam has to just put some air under it and let it fly.  

 

I bet he can't.

 

Ginn could be the difference maker in this battle.  You can bet your ass he is gnawing at the bit to get a shot at busting up the 49ers.

I don't underestimate Ginn's potential and I damn sure don't undervalue good intel.  Time and time again, that has been a key difference between winning and losing, and I don't just mean in football.

I definately would like to see Ginn get more involved in the offense this week. It feels like each week we attack defenses with subtle differences. The read option was almost non existent vs the Falcons this year. I can't wait to see what we cook up this week and when things don't work out do we have the next great idea.

I hope we don't throw any more 30-yard bombs on 3rd and 2.  That poo was frustrating as hell against the Falcons the other day.
