what 49er fans are saying

Nothing would make me happier than to come out Candlestick looking like a superior version of everything 49ers fans think their team is.

Said in offseason gettleman would try to build us a version of the 9ers/hawks. Great D and explosive offense. Many were calling for one or the other but I think I agree with you we are all ready a better version of the 9ers

So, enough with the Keek-Willis debate.  Both are good enough to put their team in a position to win, and that's all that matters, right?

Let's talk strategy:  I say we sell out against the run.  Kaep is a serviceable QB, and can do some amazing things with his feet.  I think Cam is the better over all QB, especially considering the weapons he has to work with.  If we put an end to rushing attack, which I think we can do, limiting it to around 90-100 yards collectively, I think we win, because that means that Kaep is having to throw the ball to win the game.  And let's face it, he's no Peyton, Brady, Brees, hell, even Ryan, as far as reading defenses and getting the ball out quickly and on target to avoid the pass rush--he scrambles in order to avoid sacks.  But like I said, if their run game is limited to 90-100 yards total, then we have forced him to throw it, which I don't think he is good enough to do.

On offense, we need to continue converting on 3 downs [unlike the ATL game with the piss-poor playcalling], and controlling the clock.  Cam needs to be on-target with his intermediate throws, and we need to get their LBs running sideline to sideline with our trio of running backs.  An off day by Cam in the air, and we could be in for a long game on both sides of the ball.  Cam doesn't have to be spectacular, though; just decent.

Plus, extra motivation for Ginn å la Tolbert against San Diego last year.

tl;dr-Headline version:  Panthers Stop SF Run; Win Tight One

Good write up.

The key will be can yall take away our rushing attack with stacking the box? Teams who can stuff our run without sacrificing coverage usually win.

The Colts were able to stack the box against us because we didn't even have VD playing. They only had to worry about Boldin and if you can double Boldin then you are golden.. Unfortunately, this is impossible to pull off when Vernon Davis is playing. Also, the addition of Manningham should also free up some big passing opportunities.

Week 1 of this season the Packers sold out on the run against us. Kap proceeded to diccect them. Kap is actually a damn good passer and has proved it on numerous occasions and on some pretty big stages. He has struggled this season mainly because he's had one WR to throw to (Boldin was penciled in as our #2 behind Crabs) and a TE. Also, Kap hasn't needed to pass much this season now that Frank Gore has go going.

Our defense if very opportunistic and i think Cam plays a little raw at times. I think he will throw an INT this game for sure. Granted, I don't see this game being a blow-out by either team.

they are like all other fan bases, think their team is going to win every week, downplay their opponents and assume the past will also be the future.  it is a new week, momentum changes faster in football than anything else.  we are a pretty close match up, two teams with very similar philosophies and both are playing well.

How to win?

Better play calling honestly. On 3rd & 2, D.Will should NEVER be in or in on ANY short yardage. Cam/Stew/Tolbert, find a way to pick up that 2 yards. There were times when ATL didn't stack the box and we threw it for an in-completion

Change of pace, the no huddle offense like in the 2nd half was a brilliant idea. I never seen Cam and this offense look to be in FULL control of a drive until the dumbass ref messed up our rhythm

We can stop Gore without stacking the box.

Kaepernick could run for 100, though, judging by how we fare against mobile QBs lately.

Kaep has a great o-line, Davis and Boldin. Cam has a mediocre o-line, a 34 year old #1 who has lost two steps and a #2 who would be a #3 on other squads and Olsen. The fact is Colin needs The Pistol to pass against the better defenses. His mechanics still need more development (he tries to pitch instead pass at times). So, in essence, Kaepernick is just as raw as Cam, but Cam is the better passer.

The Panthers don't stack the box. Lynch and Peterson were stopped on a four man rush. Gore won't be played any differently. We'll like drop six or seven into coverage like we've done all year.

Heck, I'd say Kap is way more raw than Cam, considering this looks like it will be Kap's first full season as a starter. This game is shaping up to be a good one. I do think we have the advantage since we are playing at home even though our fans need to be told when and when not to make noise...

We do have a way better run blocking O-line than the Vikings and Shehawks though. So yall may have to sacrifice someone in the box.

I am, however, afraid that the Niners will start out pass happy this game. We tend to do that at home when Colin doesn't have to deal with crowd noise...It has proven to be a dangerous recipe, as our offensive success starts with, and goes through Frankie Jesus aka Frank Gore.

I didn't necessarily mean stack the box when I said "sell out against the run."  Thomas Davis is good in coverage, and so is Keek.  Blackburn is better tackling.  I think our front 4 can handle any team's traditional rushing attack.  Selling out against the run to me means a QB spy with the occasional blitz from the safety position or corner back position.  If we can't stop the run this way, then I say we stack the box--"show our hand," so to speak.

If Kaep throws for 220+, but the run game doesn't do jack, then I am perfectly OK with that.  I don't think throwing for 220+ is enough by itself though to win the game.

As far as Cam's flashes of being raw, he definitely has that reputation.  Against Atlanta, he was sailing passes.  It should be noted that the two picks he had was partially the receivers' fault:  Ginn could have swatted the ball away, and Smith completely quit on the route.  If Cam can control his jitters, I don't think he has any turnovers.  Even if he does have one, we have proven this year we can still maintain our confidence and pull out the win.
