Jonathon Martin

The idea that Martin is soft is absurd.  The media should be reporting stories like this.  And it should be put in the public consciousness.  This story transcends just football.

And I was a guy that lived with a football team for a year at a prep school, played sports my whole life, and have a understanding of locker room culture.  The idea that this is "typical locker room culture" is bullshit. There is a fine line between teasing, joking, and hazing and being an incredible asshole that is a bully.  there is nothing funny, about calling someone a "half N----" or saying "I will slap you mother".  OMG fugging hilarious.  You guys are soooooo funny.  Bullshit.

To the people who say "he needs to be a man"  Fug you!  That is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard, and those pussies who say that on TV, 90% of them wouldn't do poo either.  Everyone thinks they are a badass until they actually have to be a badass ad then they are just as much a pussy as everyone else.  If they weren't all wearing pads half the "fights" in the NFL would be like 95% of baseball fights everyone runs out on the field and then just stands around laughing and talking for five minutes while a fat 60 year old umpire magically is capable of keeping a roided up 250 pound baseball player from getting out of his grasp while he yells "you lucky he holding me back!1!11"

But if you feel the entire team, coaches, and organization are teaming up on you, what exactly does a person do?  Fight everyone?  Fight every player, coach, GM and owner that did nothing to protect him?

Philbin (sp?), their GM, and Incognito all need to be fired yesterday.  Every one of them are to blame. We'll see how serious the Dolphin's organization is about protecting their players by who still has jobs after this.  My guess is they are more interested in their slim playoff chances than doing the right thing.

The one person who doesn't deserve blame?  Martin.

Yup

ESPN polled 72 players (3 per team on 24 teams) with this question: Which player would you rather have on your team?

- 34 said Jonathan Martin

- 15 said Incognito

- 23 said neither one

Story here (link)

I found this to be the most interesting bit from that article...

Most of the players asked said they had never been hazed in the NFL, and that they had never provided money as a result of being hazed.

Some coaches and organizations don't allow it in any form, even 'good natured' hazing.

The Panthers always have, and I have no issue with that.

The stuff Incognito did though? Well beyond simple hazing.

Well, obviously a guy being bullied, forced to pay for stuff, having his family threatened and his livelihood endangered by a violent racist psycho (who had the team's blessing to do so) certainly doesn't merit the level of righteous personal outrage due when a defensive lineman takes practice snaps on the offensive line.

I mean hey, priorities, right?

The fact that you think your "outrage" is righteous is exactly what is so hilarious. what a noble and kindred spirit you are! let us take note of your upstanding character as we read your internet comments of disapproval and false shock!

Well, perish the thought of anyone being angered at the thought of another human being suffering mistreatment.

After all, most of us reserve our purest anger for truly important things in life, like bad coaching decisions

Look at the military in the past and jobs that have a do anything to win attitude.  You're in a bubble and when anybody steps outside the "family" the others circle the wagons and protect their own.  You see this type of thing in locker rooms, the military, police department, fire stations, etc.  You take care of your own.  You take whatever anyone dishes out or fight back.  There isn't any other options.  Not if you want to stay part of the club.

If you think the MILITARY joins arms in protection of its bad apples, I have to only guess that you have NEVER been in the military.

I sat on a few juries in courts martial in my many years in the service.  And my experience was that you had damned well better be innocent and pure as the driven snow or we would fug YOU UP.

About as much of a 'lasting impression' as a six year old throwing a temper tantrum in public. I have found your attempts at trying to come up with an effective insult mildly amusing (though repetitive, and thus becoming rather boring).

See, I grew up with a values system that places real world stuff higher in importance than football. Hence, why I'd be offended in an adult manner at something like what happened to Jonathan Martin rather than throwing a fit worthy of an angry toddler over something that happened in a team practice.

I realize concepts like judgment, wisdom, priorities and other 'grown-up' stuff may be over your head, but those are the kinds of things that guide those of us who are well over the age of twelve. But here's hoping someday you'll get it.

One, I said in the past and two with a court marshall that's taking care of it in house.  If any news organization would come sniffing around a potential story I think the Military might close ranks a bit.  How many stories in the past of sexual assault or persecution of homosexuals were swept under the rug or not followed up on.

And again I said in the past.  I think they do a much better job today.

And you're right I didn't serve but I have the utmost respect for the Military.  My father served two tours in Vietnam.  I did see A Few Good Men a number of times though.  :)
