Jonathon Martin

My latest theory:

Incognito and Martin were gay lovers. Incognito was harsh on him at times to keep up a facade. But then they had a spat and the voicemail became a way for Martin to get back at Richie.

That could actually work. The whole deal is too weird and filled with contradictions.

The only thing that's crystal clear = Ireland is a bad GM and worst person. He should've been fired a long time ago.

Lol, I hadn't thought about that, but I did think there were some very supressed homoerotic feeling bubbling underneath Incognito's voicemail... "I'll poo in your mouth?" Who says that?

In my experience, a lot of times when one person says that to another, it's usually a joke and they are not serious. I've never heard it as a serious insult...

Maybe Richie was serious in saying it.... but I really don't believe that.

I don't think Incognito is a repressed homosexual.

I think he's an obnoxious dumbass.

What do you expect the players to say? This makes them look like idiots and will discourage top quality free agents from going there. Of course they are trying to diffuse the situation and blame Martin. Martin could have stepped up and told Incognito in front of the coaches that he was tired of Incognito's BS and wanted him to stop. But he didn't choose to handle it that way. But more importantly, if Incognito was stealing credit cards and telling Tannehill that "if you want us to block for you, it is going to cost you." or whatever, then the guy is guilty of real crimes and deserves to be punished. Incognito got thrown out of two colleges (Arizona State & Nebraska) was not re-signed by the Rams because he wasn't that good and created too many problems and then got cut by the Jets. The guy is mess and the Dolphins are a mess for trying to defend him. This is a lot more about Incognito than it is Martin.

Can anyone imagine this story coming out of Carolina?

Some teams compromise character to win and instead of winning, crap like this happens.  I think the integrity of our players has been high for the most part. heck, I listen to "This is Gross" and cannot help but to think what a good group of guys we have.

It's starting to become pretty clear that Richie really didn't do that much wrong besides the foul language and the drop of the n word. Lol so many of you.

No, that's not really clear at all, dumbass.

You do realize that many victims of social harassment sometimes "go along" with the "joke" in their continued effort to try to be ACCEPTED, correct?  That they project the image they hope the harassers want to try to FINALLY get them to stop?

"Yeah, guys! SO FUNNY, that n-word!  And threatening my family? HILARIOUS!  You guys are great!  (Can we stop now? Please?)"

Martin is accusing the Dolphins of more than good-natured hazing. However, he mislabeled it as bullying instead of workplace harassment, potentially a serious violation of federal employment law.

Pretty sure, since Martin hasn't spoken to anyone yet about this outside his family and his doctor(s), that Martin hasn't labeled it anything at all, much less MISlabeled it.

Pretty much.

I used to have a lot of respect for the Dolphins back in the Don Shula days, but Stephen Ross and Jeff Ireland have taken a once proud organization and run it into the ground.

i don't know if this has been discussed, but the dolphins have the worst pass-blocking line in the league, and richie incognito being gone makes a bad situation much, much worse. ryan tannehill is desperate to keep even marginally good blockers in front of him.

motive established.

Worth remembering that those players that are still on the team are still subject to the front office idiots who helped create the situation. (and are now in full CYA mode). This besides the fact that some of them could be held accountable.

Their comments are not necessarily 'unbiased'.

The player comments were way too similar and positive. Not one guy had something even mediocre to say about Martin?

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
