Didn't Goodell say that the nfl doesn't punish on top of team punishment? So it's possible he does nothing.

incognito is basically untouchable at this point, as in no team will want that piece of trash in their lockerroom.

very few teams wanted him anyway.

that said, i could see this being a situation where goodell does go over and beyond team punishment if he thinks that incognito is bad for the league.

i guarantee you that with the anti-bully movement going on, that if incognito is allowed to continue in the league that there will be some public backlash that goes well beyond any localized backlash from dolphin fans from incognito being suspended.

he delivered a kill shot without swinging a fist. seems like an effective way of dealing with it.

and by doing it this way instead of kicking incognito's ass, he avoided any chance of criminal charges being brought against him.

Exactly.

Here is another question.

Richie is on the news today from an interview last year discussing how Tannehill will be forced to by his line jet skis. And he made Martin give him $15k to finance a trip to Vegas.

I hear stories about rookies buying big dinners but that sounds more like a shakedown.

Young Dolphins players are under pressure to dig deep into their pockets to pay for veterans’ social outings, a practice that is straining their finances and locker room chemistry, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

One young defensive player, whose privacy the Miami Herald is protecting, is on his way to going broke because he has been unable to say no to the older players, a source said.

How could he have handled it better?

First make it clear to the coaches and the GM and how he feels about it. Two he could have said something to Incognito about it and made clear that he doesn't mind joking but certain words and things he doesn't want to hear or deal with. And if he Richie can't won't listen, just ignore him. Come to work, do your job and go home. Now that I'm older, when I hear people make cracks or say things they shouldn't, I keep going and don't let phase me. Apparently he gave Rich his phone number? Change it. Why would he have given him his number if they weren't cool at first?

Honestly, I don't know all the details, I doubt many outside those within the franchise do so It's really hard to give an accurate and proper opinion about what went down. It's all discussion for different opinions.

I could only make it through the first few pages of this thread. All the "he's a pussy" tough guy cliche responses are nauseating. This also comes down to the front office and coaches, it doesn't sound like Joe Philbin has control of his locker room. Makes him look bad.

at this point he has to plea ignorance because the other side of that coin makes him look really bad for allowing it to get to this point.

others knew about this, i'm sure, because incognito isn't the type to keep quiet about this. he's the type douche to brag about it.

that's exactly what it is.

and because the "leaders" in that lockerroom and org did nothing, they enabled incognito which only made him bolder. more than that, the players who were victimized had no power to speak of because the power in that team was behind incognito.

what martin did was the best way of dealing with it. he'll work again if he wants to. incognito won't.

I was going to ask how you knew he didn't go to Incognito, then the coaches but that's moot since you think he should just put up with the abuse if that doesn't work. Why is just taking the harassment better than removing himself from the situation?

FYI, there is a reason why Bullies always have followers. They themselves are afraid to stand up to the bully so they believe if they go along, they will be left alone.

What I see is folks hiding their own cowardness by questioning what Martin should have done in his situation. Many of you are the same folks who claim, when it's convenient, that bullying is wrong. Question...When does it become wrong?

    • Yeah, Dave doesn't seem like a "muh scheme" type of coach where he wants plays drawn up for his QB to robotically go through a preprogrammed process. He seems like more the type of coach that just wants his scheme to produce opportunities for a QB to be a playmaker. It's a scheme you'd love to play in as a QB and it's the type of scheme that should work really well for the "point guard mentality" QB they tried to sell us on Bryce being and the type of QB he was at Alabama but at the NFL level all of those physical shortcomings that seemed plainly evident to many of us on the college field are showing up in a big way. Even with his bad decisions I honestly think a lot of it is that he's struggling to see the field. I don't mean that figuratively in that he's misreading the defense or missing open receivers, I mean that literally in that I think he's struggling to see the field over the lines of 6'4"+ huge men in front of him. Reich used to talk about creating throwing lanes for Bryce to see through and holy poo... if you need throwing lanes now you've massively shrunk your opportunities. Now you're trying to play QB through a picket fence. If you watched him play at Bama, you saw him routinely drop back 10-15 yards behind the LOS to gain depth so that he could see over the scrum. You just can't do that routinely in the NFL. NFL pass rushers are just too good. Your OTs can't create that deep of a pocket.
    • This could be a breakout game for Kyle Pitts. I'm hoping for a miracle just so we have something to talk about besides the team sucking poo.
    • I don't remember a 2018 tear down. I remember the failed 2019 failed build up of the 3-4 switch which is still stuck in the 'working on the foundation' stage. I thought 2020 was closer to that but really it was just an idiot behind the wheel doing what idiots do. Poor drafting and free agents is the main problem IMO. This team hits so little on talent it's actually amazing they don't stumble over more just by accident.   I still don't think there is anything to tear down. Just a ton of easy to dump people that should happen. It's a bottom of the roster churn that reaches 2/3s the way up this roster.
