It sure looked like Smith just gave up on the play. Sizing up the play from the upper deck, it looked like Cam was going for Smith deep in the endzone, Then I take my eye off Smith to watch the arc of the ball, and when it comes down, Smith is nowhere to be found.

Smith didn't even "give up" up on that end zone play. He just ran a different/wrong route (in, instead of out/go). And that's probably one of the reasons he's upset, along with his drops (ball right through his hands), and the Panthers spreading the ball around. Let's hope he bounces back for the San Fran game?

I am just going by what I saw from the stands.  It could've been a miscommunication, but from where I was sitting it looked like he quit on the route.  He slowed up and watched the ball go over his head.  

 

I would like to see a replay of the play to definitely say either way.

There was a play early in the game where Cam burned a timeout.....he was telling 89 he wasn't where he was suppose to be.

So either Cam or 89 was wrong on that play as well

He said cam through the straight 9 and Smitty ran the 9 stop. Miscommunication. They happen. Cam said he was throwing it away, I tend to believe Rivera on this one.
