Beason Compensation: 7th round pick

Yea that sounds just like Beason.

What's he gonna say? That he should be starting? Only distraction that'd cause is the laughter in the locker room.

Might actually bring the comedy level up a bit.

Actually that's what he did say, to Rivera specifically. And it wasn't the least bit comical at all.

When Rivera told him he wasn't going to be starting again, he then said "trade me to a team where I can".

The team took the wisest course of action and accommodated him, getting a draft pick in the process.

Right before he left he was already asking Rivera about playing time.  Going to the coach requesting playing time being one of the leaders of the team is probably going to be a distraction.

WTF does that have to do with anything...we weren't keeping him...the argument is over the 7th...

Well that's exactly the point, his time as a Panther was coming to an end sooner rather than later regardless. I wish we could have gotten more than a 7th for him too, but life isn't a fairy tale. All this talk about getting better offers or compensation is wishful thinking at best.

Asking the coach for playing time doesn't seem like a big distraction to me....Dez Bryant going off on the sidelines is what I'd call a distraction.

If this team can't handle something like a backup wanting more playing time then they sure as hell aren't tough enough to make it to the playoffs....

Whose going to back him up in terms of the distraction? Blackburn? Davis? Smitty?

Only person on the team that'd be distracted is Beason..anyway getting rid of him is fine but he could have done better than a 7th...make them sit on it for a bit longer until the Giants got desperate.

I agree comp picks don't actually exist...it's something we made up for this thread.

There's 30 other teams he could have be traded to

Giants just so happen to be "that" team

We could have got higher from someone else, I'm 100% positive of it

Pretty much.

Fans still see Beason for what he used to be.

Personnel people evaluate his value based on what he is now. In other words, a guy whose last playing time was two years ago, playing out of position and doing so badly enough that he wound up benched. A guy who, on top of that, was a free agent at season's end anyway.

If we were on the other end of the trade and gave up higher than a 7th for a guy with that profile, I'd be pretty pissed.

What we haven this thread is a lot of emotional evaluation, something that helped put us into a cap mess that Gettleman had to dig us out of.

There isn't 30 other teams he could have been traded to...come on now...

We could have worked it more/closer to the deadline though to try and squeeze out something better...it's not like the Giants were going to find anyone else in that time frame.

There are thirty other teams with injured linebacking corps that needed a starting MLB?

Musta been a hell of a rash of injuries that somehow didn't make the news

The Giants gave up something because they had a need.  If not for that, chances are they wouldn't have done the deal either.

Reality: There wasn't any market for him.  We're lucky we got anything at all.

I have 0 emotional attachment....it's like saying it was emotion and not logic when the AE trade went down...

Just awful decision, not emotion.(in regards to the AE trade)

a 7th rounder barely even counts as compensation, you're basically just getting your first choice of UDFAs.

the giants were desperate as hell, you can't tell me if Gettle puts his foot down and says "its a 6th or no deal" that they won't take that offer. and yeah there's 30 other teams and Beason had JUST been taken out of the starting lineup and the trade deadline was a ways off. no reason not to hold onto him until you get at least a halfway reasonable offer

this really just looks like he did his old buddies in NY a favor and didn't care too much about getting the best deal

Just how much do you "think" we would have gotten from a comp pick, if we had even gotten one at all?

7th at best....

But that leaves us with Beason as a backup for our deep playoff run this year...never know what might happen...
