Beason Compensation: 7th round pick

A 6th that would have escalated to a 5th depending on how many games he started would have sufficed. A 7th is poverty, yes, Munnerlyn was a 7th but even finding depth in the 7th is a task. DJ Campbell lasted one season here.

Beason was playing badly enough that he was benched, and this after not having played for two seasons because of injury (and sitting out much of training camp).

If the Panthers traded a 5th round pick for a guy from elsewhere that fit that profile, people here would go nuts (and rightly so).

Fans can afford to be emotional and sentimental about player decisions.  GMs/  Not so much.

He expressed to leadership that he wanted to go somewhere he could start.  They accommodated him and got something in return.

Win/win.

I think he has already proven in the few games he's played that he's getting back to where he used to be - and I'm glad to see it - I absolutely loved the guy

What position is he playing?

Would you have suggested putting him at that position here?

I loved Beason too, but a pretty high percentage of guys in the NFL don't get storybook endings to their careers.

That's just the nature of the game.

a.) a 7th rounder while not great is better than nothing, which would we would have gotten if he had and was going to walk at the end of the season

b.) Beason has been a class act to this organization and one of our better players in recent years. let him have the chance to compete at the Mike elsewhere

this type of reasoning is exactly what frustrates me about this franchise's management and some of the fans

everyone's fine with below average everything

Odd response, given that "below average" would have been a compliment for Beason's OLB performance.  That's a big reason why he wasn't going to net a higher pick via trade.

As to the guy who is playing MLB for us, what exactly is "below average" about him?

He was a free agent at the end of the year and we were not going to resign him.  He wasn't going to play given he is not as good as any of our starting guys. So really he was totally superfluous to us.  The giants knew it as well so really what do you expect?  The fact that he is one of their best defenders is an indictment of their defense not a great vindication of his talent or evidence we got screwed.

ITT: People realize how little value players have through trades.

The people that think we can get a third or fourth for JStew or DWill in the offseason need to pay close attention to what's going on here.

Colts just traded a first rounder for a middle of the road RB. There are always suckers.

Gettlemen did NY a favor. He could of gotten more than a 7th for Beason for a team that wanted to play him at MLB. Not much more but certainly a better late round pick.

Maybe that is just Gettlemen building trade relationships. 5th, 6th or 7th.......they all are lottery ticket type picks

Beason was pretty average at OLB last time he played it before the health issues. He is simply is a MLB.

Grand scheme, having him off our roster alone might of been worth it. His leadership might of been pulling is in different directions. We certainly appear better now that we don't have to give him token playing time
