Beason Compensation: 7th round pick

For all the "dumb trade, we could have gotten better" guys.

Where are the reports that we had teams lined up to give us 4th, 5th, and 6th round picks?  And Gman just ignored them to do his former mates a favor?

You guys are "homorons" to say the least.  Embarassing to see the silly responses in this thread.  Beason might or might not even finish the season for the Gmen, much less the fact that he could not get on the field here and when he did was an embarrassment.  THIS had folks lined up to fork over draft picks?

The lack of reality here is numbing.

Scot you really going to convince your brain we got all we could have? You think we really couldn't a 4th? The rumor was a 5th. A 5th is higher than 7th. So how can you sit there and say absolutely nobody wouldnt give us something higher than a 7th. Players come back from injuries all the time. We talking about a 3 time pro-bowl linebacker still in his 20s who was at one point like the only player you could look forward to on defense. Highway robbery. There were no negotiations at all. Like you said we got him outta here quickly to a team that so happened to be Gettle former team. I don't know how anyone is content with that or content with our trade fiasco this season period. You think gettle tried to work something out for nicks? Hell no the same way you telling me nobody would have given a 4th, I'm telling you he didn't try to get any receiver

But like my 1st comment said, if we had a losing record lets say like 2-6 man this thread would be so different

But we don't Have a losing record, do we? Nor is there any sign so far that we miss Beason on defense.

I gave a list of every team not in our division that runs a 4-3 and who their starter was when Beason asked for a trade. Show me who in that list had a bigger need than the Giants (or any need at all).

And I'll give you a hint: If you base any of your premise on h idea that maybe a 3-4 team would have wanted him, you've pretty much lot the debate (i.e. Clearly showing you don't know enough about football to know what you're talking about).

Dude, he had 11 special teams tackles last year... I wouldn't quite say that Colin Jones is special teams Jesus.

To be fair, I have a specific memory of Jones recovering a fumbled punt recently. Fought two guys under a pile for it.Will have to look up the game. Had Beason been here he would have been on the bench behind Chase Blackburn.

Dude asked to get traded. It sucks, but we gave his job to someone else.

e: I lurked a Giants board and saw that they are basically praising Beason for "turning on" their defense in the last few games. He calls the signals, lines people up and provides badly needed leadership. Too bad the pick wasn't conditional

I really hope this doesn't turn into another Julius Peppers where everyone pretends like he wasn't as good as he was when he was here doing work.

He was an All-Pro linebacker and, post-injury or not, is worth more to us as depth than a 7th round practice squad player.

I'm glad he gets to be elsewhere starting, but he could also be starting somewhere in the league AND we could've gotten more than a 7th out of it.

He wasn't a terrible player, even playing as an OLB this year, and I think anyone who disagrees with that is just blinded by the lights.

Here's a thorough summary of what's wrong about the "bad deal" logic.

"He was an all-pro linebacker, post injury or not". Yeah, that's fan logic at it's finest. No GM in the league is going to set the value they're willing to trade for him based on how good he used to be. Using that logic, Ed Reed would be worth a first round pick (have you seen Ed Reed lately?)

"He could also be starting somewhere in the league." Really? Where? Are the Seahawks gonna start him over Bobby Wagner, or the Vikings over Erin Henderson? I gave a list of all the teams running a 4-3 out of our division. Show me out of that group who Beason starts over. And remember it's the Beason of 2013 you're comparing, not 2019 (Hint: There's nobody. If you just pick a name you're not familiar with, it'll look silly).

"He wasn't a terrible player at OLB." Seriously? You wanna argue Beason looked good at OLB this year? That's pretty much a credibility killer, especially seeing as he was benched before he was traded. And no, that wasn't in preparation for the trad because he didn't ask to be traded until after that happened.

So to sum it all up, no acknowledgment of current reality, evaluating through the eyes of a fan, and appealing to "somebody" rather than looking at the actual teams involved. Yep, pretty consistent with all of the other "bad deal" proponents so far. And thus, just as weak.

The whole argument truly comes down to a single point: "We should have gotten a higher pick in trade because he used to be a great linebacker."

Get it through your heads, guys. Nobody trades for who somebody used to be.

Thank you DG, we got something, for literally nothing.

Thank you Beason for taking a pay cut so that we could trade you.

Thank you G-Men for getting a possible cancer out of our locker room.

And to the folks out there talking about 30 other teams....you make me LOL.

For all the "dumb trade, we could have gotten better" guys.

You're ignoring the part of "could have gotten better" that meant having Beason on this roster for a possible playoff push.

I don't know how terribly unhappy he really was.  If he was a distraction etc, this was a good move, but if it was just doing right by him and Gettle's former organization I am a little bit surprised at what we got for him because I think Beason is worth more than that to our team this season specifically.

I'm happy we got something but this isn't exactly much.

He didn't wanna be here if he wasn't a starter and the Giants needed a starting MLB (no one else did).

It would have been nice to have gotten more. Heck, it would have been nice if he hadn't missed two seasons with injury and hadn't proven to be a liability at OLB.

But since those things did happen, whaddaya gonna do? :(

Well the Giants did give up a 5th rounder for an injury prone linebacker that hasn't done anything since entering the league, when they traded for Keith Rivers from the bengals last year.

So a 7th for someone that was a probowl linebacker in Beason is an absolute steal.
