Beason Compensation: 7th round pick

So?

LoL so whoever don't want to be a backup speak now and the Panthers will trade you for a 7th round pick!!

Gold pure gold

Fans pissed and moaned relentlessly about the fat contracts Hurney handed out to Williams and Stewart. But then when Beason (who had a fat contract and struggled to stay healthy for 2 years) actually gets traded for a pick, they grab the pitch forks and go crazy.

Makes no sense.

we didn't shop around, we didn't hold on to him up until the trade deadline

you don't know what other teams would have given up, or even what the giants would have given up at a maximum. stop trying to pretend like you do

when it comes down to it i would have rather kept his a backup and taken a compensatory than give him away for almost nothing

Yet that is exactly what some are doing by acting like they know for a fact that we didnt "shop" and other teams would have offered a higher pick.

dont know how I feel about this. Was hoping for more but was expecting this. we dont know if gman was looking for more and this is all he could get or not. We have no clue so at face value at least we are getting a pick and not nothing. Kind of whatever feeling. The future is now

Not me.....restructuring Beason and moving him was fine...what part of 7th round pick I disagree with don't you get?

Just because we didn't blunder a move like AE this time doesn't mean we won the trade.

If Beason returns to half of what he used to be then the Giants just bent us over like everyone else does when we trade with them.

There was no "winning" in this trade, or overall severing of ties with Beason in general.

That possibility was out the window when we signed him to that contract in 2011.

Well Hurney doomed us for several years no doubt about it...I just want this team to come out ahead on some deals from now on.

The thing I dont get is ppl thinking he did the giants a favor. Why would gettleman want less when he is trying to build this team? Regardless of ties, why would ge want to just hand over a player if he was worth more? Some of this speculation is just speculation. And most doesnt add up

i thought at the time of the trade a 5th rounder would have been a fair deal for both sides

given how well he's played once moved back to MLB i'd say that was actually too low

a 7th is just, ughh did you even try? lol

like i said, call around, hold onto him, maybe a couple other teams have injuries at MLB in the next few weeks. maybe you can squeeze a higher pick out of the giants. at least TRY to get a better deal rather than just running to take literally the worst compensation possible

I REALLY hope this is just an isolated case and Gettle doesn't continue to get butt fuged with every trade he does while working here

Honestly, half the fans in this thread discussing how we got raped on this deal have to be pre-teens or idiots. It's the only explanation. We got something for a player who was benched for being a liability and would've been cut in the 2014 off-season.

I understand this is The Huddle on the interwebz but use that complex organ in your cranium. It's not your enemy, it's your friend.

Again - this "thought process" is EXACTLY what's plagued this franchise - you've been brainwashed PF - stare away from the light

I'll break it down for you.

He's not being traded to a division rival, so the Falcons, Bucs and Saints are out.

He's got no value to a 3-4 team because he'd just be out of position again, and most of the teams that run 3-4 systems are pretty happy with their starters anyway (look 'em up if you like) so the Browns, Cardinals, Chargers, Chiefs, Colts, Eagles, Jets, Packers, Ravens, Redskins, Steelers, Texans, Saints (again) and 49ers are all out.

That's over half the league already negated. Only fourteen options still left.

Here are the starting middle linebackers for the remaining teams at the time of the trade:

Bears - D J Williams (backed up by Jon Bostic, their 2nd round pick)

Bengals - Rey Maualuga

Bills - Kiko Alonso

Broncos - Paris Lenon

Cowboys - Sean Lee

Dolphins - Dannell Ellerbe

Jaguars - Paul Posluszny

Lions - Stephen Tulloch

Patriots - Jerod Mayo

Raiders - Nick Roach

Rams - James Lauranitis

Seahawks - Bobby Wagner

Titans - Moise Fokou

Vikings - Erin Henderson

So you tell me. What team in this list has a compelling reason to offer a 5th pick for a guy who's missed the last two years with injuries and is underperforming badly enough to get benched? What guy on that list does a team start Beason over?

The Giants? They were starting Mark Herzlich, and he was looking awful.

I keep hearing that "somebody" would have made us a better offer. Well, these are all the "somebodies" that are out there. This isn't the fantasy football world. These are the real world players. This is what GMs are looking at when they make a decision. You wanna make an argument? Make it in the real world framework.

Show me where the better deal gets done.

I bet money these are the same guys with the classic car sitting on bricks and think it's worth mint condition pricing. Theo ones who think comic books they found in the basement are collectors items and are worth millions of dollars.  The same people who would rather throw the couch in the garbage than donate it.  Or give away an old table watch someone fix it up and then feel cheated.

I see these people all the time, no idea what depreciation means.  It's pretty pointless to argue at this point.  It's not a question of whether or not the giants got the better of the deal.  It's a hoarder mentality.  An object value is determined by the market.  There was plenty of opportunity for people to "pry" Beason from us. Wasn't a market.
