A tale of two defenses (ATL vs CAR): Stats from NFL Gamebooks

I've been recording drive stats from the NFL gamebooks for all games.....

Here's the most telling stat for this week:

For the year, the Atlanta defense is allowing a scoring drive 50% of the time. (17 FGs, 19 TDs, 72 drives).

This is worst in the NFL. And the "best" showing was against StLouis who was held to 36%. (4 of 11 drives). Which is league average.

The Panthers defense is allowing offenses to score on 27% of all drives for the year. (12 FGs, 8 TDs, 73 drives). Panthers are tied for 2nd (with SEA, SF, NE). KC is a clear #1 @19%.

Atlanta's offense has actually performed well for the year with very similar numbers to the Panthers. 41% for both teams.

This game may not reach a Minnesota Def (ranked 31st @47%) type blowout, but ATL's D shouldn't be stopping Cam & Co.

And for the division leader:

NO defense continues to play well. They are right behind the Panthers (and SEA, SF, NE) @ 29%, ranked 6th.

Their offense (46%, ranked 4th) vs is just a bit higher than the Panthers. (41%, ranked 6th). That game is a long time away and the numbers may move a bit. If we were to play right now, I'd go with home team wins each matchup in two close games.
