Charles Johnson Getting Some MMQB Love

4) People who don't realize how much he would have helped the Falcons (his home town team)

5) People that expect every Carolina player to take a dollar over the league minimum out of loyalty

Johnson has earned/been worth every fuging cent of his contract to date.

QFT.

Those that think we vastly overpaid for CJ fall into 2 categories:

1) People that really don't have a full appreciation for the overall play of DE's, focusing strictly on sacks

or

2) People that don't know the market value of premier DE's.

Sure, maybe we could have shaved a million a year off his contract, but it's not like very good DE's are falling off trees, and the good ones cost money. After QB and maybe LT, it is arguably the most important position on the field.

i dont think very many of us believe he is overpaid or have a problem with his contract.  we probably had to compete with the Falcons for him anyway, and he is young and worth every penny.

Charles Johnson now is not as good as Julius Peppers in his prime. You guys know if Peppers was still here and y'all weren't so salty about him leaving, you'd all be saying the same exact thing as I am now.

Sure, CJ is more of a blue collar player, but he is not as good as Peppers was when he was here.

Peppers was more athletic and had more ability than CJ.  But CJ is a better overall Defensive End.  If you want a guy to make a highlight reel play every 6 weeks, Peppers was your guy.  If you want a DE to terrorize an offense CONSISTENTLY, CJ is your guy.

Something that he's great at that doesn't get as much mention is how great he is at forcing fumbles from QBs. I don't think there's a DE in the league that's as instinctive or technically sound at swiping QB throwing arms when sacking than CJ. If I recall correctly, last year of his 12 sacks, 7 were also forced fumbles. That's amazing.

I really don't agree with this.  I know Peppers took some plays off, but I think that he was so physically gifted that a lot of people were unwilling to accept that teams were gameplanning against him pretty heavily and he was still having an impact.

Peppers (in his prime) was so much better than CJ... but CJ is a great player.  That's no knock on CJ.

Peppers was far and away my favorite player when he was here (my dogs name is Julius, argg), but I can't count on two hands how many times Peppers would be going into a game and everyone here would be licking their chops because it'd be against a rookie tackle or a second stringer due to injury and Pep finished the game with like 1 solo and 1 assisted tackle. And that wasn't being double teamed or throwing chip blocks his way. That was the thing about Pep that ultimately gave me peace about him leaving. Dude did not show up a lot of the time and I have no clue as to why.

Can't agree with this at all.

Especially later in his time here, he seemed disinterested.  But his first couple years he I think he was playing at a very high level and I don't think that he was taking as many games off as people think.

He's awesome but come on Hurney way over paid. But anything to keep him from going to the falcons.

Yeah I don't know of any other defensive end the could chase down micheal vick in the open field in his prime. Peppers was an absolute freak. Even more so than clowney or anybody else that has come out.
