Cam-isms

Rules&Regulations

You can sure read between the lines in regards to the "speak properly" comments.

Nothing changes.

I think this thread is in good fun Red. If not I would be banting peeps like crazy.

Cam has a southern quirk, he makes weird analogies and busts up cliches, I do the same damn thing.

How do I know? B/C I understand what he is trying to say perfectly LOL

totally agreed. and like i said earlier the yogi berra comparison is spot on.

there's nothing to read between the lines unless you're just wanting to see something there.

Most of it is. I was referring to a few posts I saw, they aren't as bad as the ones in the press conference threads last year though. I'm not trying to derail this thread, so I'll leave it at that. I enjoy Cam's interviews, his quirks make him unique, and he's a naturally funny guy.

There was definite ignorance in those press conference threads early last season. No way around it. Sorry if people hate to admit it.

Cam's press conferences were terrible last year.  He was nervous, uncomfortable, and seemed not to be prepared.

However, this year's press conferences are signifcantly better.  You see how he is growing and maturing as a young man as well as a football player.  He seems so much for comfortable, and it really, really shows.  He still has his boyish playfulness about him and that is a GOOD thing.

I really enjoy listening to him now....and do especially love his botched cliches.  I find them amusing....not demeaning.

spot on with the yogi berra.

for any of you young guys, yogi was a great baseball player back when baseball was cool. the thing that was awesome about him was what came out of his mouth.

Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical."

"I always thought that record would stand until it was broken."

"I don't know (if they were men or women fans running naked across the field). They had bags over their heads."

"I'm a lucky guy and I'm happy to be with the Yankees. And I want to thank everyone for making this night necessary."

"It gets late early out there."

"Nobody goes there anymore because it's too crowded."

"Take it with a grin of salt."

"You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you are going because you might not get there."

"We made too many wrong mistakes."

"When you come to a fork in the road, take it."

there's a lot of them here:

http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/y/yogi_berra.html

yogi was one of my favorite athletes/personalities ever because he was just so much fun...and no, i'm not old enough to have seen him play live.

Casey Stengel was another.  He testified before congress once and nobody had a frigging clue what he was talking about.  Mickey Mantle followed him and opened by saying "My views are pretty much the same as Casey's"

Hank Stram was a beloved, Hall of Fame level coach, but he too was known to mangle the English language from time to time (like with "matriculating the ball down the field").

It's not insulting.  People need to lighten up.

That was a tough time for the entire team, not just him. I think they all learned from it, especially Cam, who is still only 24 years old.

It cannot be stated enough how difficult it is for anyone to speak in front of large groups of individuals. Especially a young guy who immediately became the face of the franchise. When you factor in the adversity that the team had to endure, it becomes even more difficult.

Like any other young athlete, Cam just needs time and opportunity to progress and develop, and that is what we are seeing.

I think you are absolutely correct....but, it can be taken even further.

Cam was the face of the franchise and only 24 years old.  He also knew that every word he said was being disected and people were looking for that negative story to write.  That makes you even more nervous.

That is why I used the Dan Quail analogy...many of you are too young to remember him.  He had a few public speaking gaffe's (wrong pronunciation and wrong word used).  The media crucified him for it and it just made him more and more nervous.  By the end of his term, he was a blubbering idiot on camera.....and he was an incredibly intelligent man.

Agree fully. I can't wait to hear someone ask Cam about the playoffs and hear Cam say something like, "we play one game at a time and try to go 1-0 each week. We don't want to put the cart on top of the horse." Or something to that affect. I will burst out laughing!!
