Honestly I'd be game for Blackmon for a 3rd, Gordon for a 3rd to a conditional 2nd or Nicks for a 4th. I really feel like this team is a high level WR away from being a deep playoff contender.

That being said I think it'll be a cold day in hell before that happens.

You feel we are a high level WR away from being a contender, but your only willing to give up a third for Blackmon?

Can't expect to get talent without giving away something of value. Both Blackmon and Gordon will not be moved unless Jax and Cleve are offered 2nd's at the least.

Gordon and Blackmon both are better than any reciever you'll find in the second round.

Both guys are young and still on rookie deals. With our cap issue these guys are our best options at wide out. Both have proven they can play at this level as well.

I honestly think it has to be a 3rd that turns into a conditional 2nd if they don't get suspended. Any team that gave up a 1st rounder for either would be nuts. That's why I ultimately think none of the three will get traded.

Yeah, I know both are a risk but I also think both have a very high reward. Both can be #1's in this league and that's not easy to find. But this franchise isn't one to take a chance so I dont expect any moves tomorrow unfortunately.

seems like Browns, Jags, and others are shopping players hoping to get a high pick and stocking up for the loaded draft coming up.

That said, Blackmon is worth a 2nd if willing to gamble a little.

I would dangle a third for him, but not a second for any WR who has issues and is one step away from a long-term suspension.

For some reason, I think Gettlemen is looking to find WR gems who are not yet developed.  Here is my thinking:

Most WRs take a year or two to get the pro game.  Some teams are forced to cut WRs who are not contributing when the realities of the regular season take hold.  GMs and coaches switch from nurturing mode to attack mode.  They have to cut a developing prospect before they are ready to play, so they really have no idea of how good the WR might be later.  Think of most WRs in the NFL and name the players who were instant successes.  There are not many if any.

Gettlemen knows that he has Ricky Proehl, a technician who gets the most out of his players.  Look what he has done for Ginn.  I personally think Lafell has prospered under his guidance.  Note how Gettlemen is acquiring talented WRs (King, McNutt) who fit the description in the last paragraph. If you ask me, Gettlmen knows there will be a turnover next year and he is loading his guns this year for that moment.  When the Panthers grabbed King, they knew Elway wanted him, as well as Green Bay.  There is a good reason.

Gettlemen said that you build a roster from the bottom up.  He knows that #1 WRs in free agency are either expensive or come with baggage.  He knows that rookies take time to develop and are a crap shoot, for the most part.  Hurney knew this, which is why the only one he ever drafted that was worth a crap was......jury still out....Lafell?

I think Gettlemen will find some gems, but I do not think he will spend a ton or draft a #1 WR.  People here want Watkins or Evans, but they are not likely to be available.  Look at last year--Cordarrelle Patterson?  Tavon Austin?  Justin Hunter?  These guys are just not worth the risk.

It would really have to be a great deal for us.  Especially for Hicks.  I would say if it happened it is end of the line for Hixon.   No need in selling the farm when he will be a free agent in a couple of months.

I would think we would have a running start being he is from this area.

The others have to be a great deal for us.  I would not trade anything from day one or two of the draft.

I agree with everything you just said.

With that being said though... how does a guy like Josh Gordon become available and you don't make a move? All off-the-field issues aside, the guy is a freakish athlete. Has even been able to showcase some of that and have success even with the god awful qb situation and horrible rushing attack he's been paired with. He is still under a rookie contract and is a potential 5+ year WR #1 starter.

All I'm saying is that I hope they seriously considered it. If that's the case I'm satisfied.

King might have a bright future as well under the right circumstances. A true WR1 with Cam moving the ball efficiently and with Ginn and King's speed could be scary.
