If we were exempt from the salary cap, sure. Fitz earns $18 million in 2014 and $21.25 million in 2015 before his dead money cap hit is down to $3 million in 2016 in a contract that runs through 2019. There's no chance in hell this happens, at least for Carolina.

Absolutely would be a terrible move, we need our cap for hardy luke cam star. Taking on his monstrous contract would cripple our future. Lets be smart in today's nfl. Take a bunch of talented but not considered elite receivers like the pats saints or packers, pay your qb to make those guys great.

You know how much I want a receiver, but not a 30 year old who is getting paid top dollar. I just don't see it. That's too much of a financial burden for someone who may have 2-3 years of elite level football left, and 2 more good years on top of that if he's lucky.

 

I would much rather take my chances on a cheap Gordon, or just draft a guy with the skill set of Julio Jones.

Fitz has a contract that would sabotage the Panthers. Fitz the WR is a need and great fit....fitz the contract and age does ot make sense. Gotta get a guy that can grow with Newton.

Man you folks are out of your mind if you wouldn't take him IF he restructured his deal....and we all know Gettleman is a restructure kinda GM....and didn't have to give up a kings ransom in regards to draft picks. Having him on our team would probably have added two more wins for us this year.

 

You know if Gettleman could work something out.  I would be all for it. 

 

Things I would do while we have both.

 

Draft replacements in 2014 and 2015.   Let Smitty and Fitzgerald mentor these receivers.
