Chris Harris (ESPN): "Cam Newton is good. His receivers aren't"

top dawg

One of the things I don't like about fantasy football....articles written that analyze a teams players in terms of fantasy value. Not that our corps is great, but I think the receiving options for cam are much better than anyone figured coming into this season, and I think they are just getting warmed up.

Ginn is a big-play guy, we can't expect him to make consistent plays, though it would be nice if he did. Lafell is just woeful, he can't get release, run routes or catch. At least he can block! Mike Evans 2014.

Uhm when he's wide open with nobody within 5ft of him in the middle of the field and he drops it thats probably not because he was not running his route or got a bad release. Its probably not because his catching sucks either considering he catches poo one handed and makes tougher catches than almost all our other receivers. I guess you can choose not to see those plays where he makes amazing catches or creates space as well then.

He flat out needs to be more consistent, period. He has all the tools. The thing that made Smitty so focused was his passion and competitiveness. LaFell needs something like that to take him to the next lvl.

Yeah...and our most consistent playmaker is a 35-year-old who, like it or not, is obviously slowing down to a point where getting a consistent and legitimate playmaker, or two, is critical to the success of the future. So, I think the surety in your tone warrants a 50:50 "guesstimation" at best.

I am not saying that a big okay WR would not help this team next year...or that I would not like to draft one.

Just pointing out the Gettlemen loves his hog mollies...and with the issues we have and will have on the OL, he is more than likely to go OT in the first.

Heck, we could go G or T.

We are playing with some big holes.

G, T, WR, CB....at least it looks like S seems to of taken care of if itself.

I also think if Barner doesn't show something a mid to late round RB will be in the cards...

Agree 100% with the needs. And I would love to add a top flight WR. But, Gettlemen just loves building from the lines out.

I could really see a scenario where we sign Nicks and draft OL in the first.

are you assuming mikell stays or are you talking about mitchell and lester?  also, how many years is mitchell's contract for?

Lots.

But Lafell has had no problems getting open this year.

Not consistently.

He'll also make a nice catch, and then drop an easy catch that hits him right in the chest with no defenders even close to him.

Good to know that you woke up this morning as big a condescending little prick as you were when you fell asleep last night.

Pot, meet kettle. That's your whole shtick here MH.

Vets like Mitchell and Mikell don't demand big money. We have to pay someone to play....we have bodies. A good year and a top D...they won't leave for comparable money most likely.

I am real high on Lester. He is a football player. He basically is the opposite of Godfrey. Doesn't have the ceiling but has what matters

What WR not-named-Welker hasn't had a drop off in production when signing with a different team? IMO they all have. Even Jerry Rice did. And even with the same team, coaching changes can make a difference. See: Larry Fitzgerald this year.

All WR's will have drops. It's a truth of the game. How the offense and that WR react to a drop is what is important. I'm very glad the Panthers went back to Ginn after his last drop. He stepped up, no doubt. And the same has happened with Smitty, LaFell, and Olsen. Cam trusts his WR's. Shula trusts the WR's.

We have 3 starting WR's that are blocking machines. You can't deny that. They will give up their bodies for an ace block because, while a game is happening, at that moment, the most important play is the current play. And are pretty dependable (hey! no laughing in the back!) as far as WR's in the NFL go.

Besides ................. in Proehl I trust.  He'll have them improving each week.
