The market price for talented QB's is only going up. People just have to accept that, unless you are content with drafting a new one every few years, and signing journeymen QB's while remaining mediocre. I think Cam's contract will be in the 80 million range, but it's still early.

Let's see first Qb ever with 50 Ptd and 25 rtd in a three season span, one of the fastest qb's ever to 10k yards and 50 td's. One of the fastest players in nfl history to hit 75 total td's.

I think he's proven that he's an elite level qb and deserves the money.

 

While I agree he hit the ground running you can not use stats to back up your argument that he deserves the money. Every quarterback is throwing for more yards and more touchdowns than ever before. In 2008 you had 6 players with 4,000 yards and 8 with 20 touchdowns, last year you had 11 with 4,000 yards and 20 with 20 or more touchdowns, all more than Newton had last season. I think we need to wait and see how he finishes out the season before labeling him elite and rewarding him with an elite contract.

He spoke the truth. At present Cam is not a franchise QB.

actually yes, there are people here who are perfectly content with that and think we need to keep drafting quarterbacks until we have one who wins the super bowl as a rookie

Numbers and stats are what contracts are based on. That's why there's lbte and pro bowl and all pro incentives in most contracts. It's a stat based league when it comes to contracts.

Yea, qb's get the credit or blame for wins and losses and that will have a factor in the discussions. However, When you put the teams losses under a microscope you see that cam more often then not is the sole reason that the game was close enough to be a 7 pt loss.

Point is Cam is a unique situation where his stats and play will overshadow the win-loss record in contract talks. Someone is going to give him a massive deal worth over 100 million, do you want that team to be Carolina or a different one???

Sure, but there are certainly more factors in determining if one is a franchise QB. Cam has single-handedly kept us in many games that we ultimately lost because the team as a whole couldn't hold it together. He's scored 77 TD's in his first 39 games. How is this a question?
