Cam's Contract if the season ended today

Recommended Posts

Rather have Bridgewater but that not the topic of this thread.   Cam is playing well enough and improving to extend his contract after this season.  You don't restart building the house if the foundation is solid (which Cam is).  Next we need to build the walls(oline) and then the roof (wide receivers).  Cam has improved every year since he has been here.   Now let me get back to my trolling.

I concur, but id be hesitant of paying him a poo ton of money and God forbid he doesnt improve anymore or regresses like Freeman or something.

Yeah that is the big issue.  Reason I would have him run his current contract out.  Team does have a 5th year option if they are not ready to sign long term.  By then both parties will know if they want to do a new deal.  If Cam keeps improving then yeah give him a contract that will keep him here.

Lol.. I didn't mean to start a whole hypothetical debate I was simply stating why I believe Cam is a Fran. QB, if we wouldn't Draft QB with a high pick, I draft other players to build around him.

Other teams who I believe would say the same thing:

Redskins:

Bengals (debatable)

Lions:

Giants:

Falcons

Seahawks

49ers etc

These are teams with Franchise QBs but not elite ones, which, to me, is what Cam is.

Just to relate to all/most of the posts in this thread......

Cam is a Franchise QB. At least 20 franchises would say "Oh, HELL YES!" if he was available.

Cam won some games, only to see the defense lose them in the last few seconds. Conversely, the defense set up some wins, only to see Cam throw them away. Maturation is our keyword here.

Jameis Winston is an anomaly. More swag than anybody as a FR in college? And he hasn't even gotten SERIOUS yet? What happens when somebody actually pisses him off? "For the first time in NCAA history, someone scored 2 touchdowns on one play."

I love cam and he is the future of this franchise but there is no way we are paying cam a 100 mill or over nor will any other team for that matter. Its all about production stats don't justify your contract when your a qb if helps but they look at everything he needs wins. All my friends that I talk to that are in the NFL always tell me thats why its always more pressure on qb's to win and at least make the playoffs for that healthy contract. Any other position could get what they want with just good stats and poor winning percentage

Predictions

Rivera Fired on new year's day after losing to the falcons to go 9-7 on the last day of the season.

Gettleman hires Jay Gruden in February.

Cam is resigned in March for 7 years $90M

When I first read your post thought you were joking - but I think you were serious and I actually think you could be 100% right if we dig this post up in January.

I think we will enter that last game with a 'win and get in' scenario. I think we will lose and it will be awful. We finish 9-7... they stick to their guns and fire Chico. A guy like Gruden comes in after what he's done iwth Cinci's offense... and Cam gets a LTC

That's a weird way to spell Perry Fewell.
