49ers and Pats. Which team do we have a better chance at beating?

We played the Patriots in a SB XXXVIII rematch in 2004, and we won. IMO, that was our revenge. I remember it very well because I was at that game. That stadium was rockin'.

Edit: Sorry, I notice you already realized your mistake. Oh well, that victory over the Pats in 2004 was still awesome.

We did not play them in 04...it was 05

Lets be real, I dont expect and honestly you cant be mad if we dont win both of these games, however I think its a MUST we win atleast one of these matchups. So my question is, in your guys opinion who do you think we have a better shot at? I havent caught much 49ers games this season, is this the same team that seemed so dominating the last two seasons? Are they improved? Worse? Is their D still legit like the previous two seasons? Kaepernick seems to be having a ho hum season. 8 TDs, 5 INTS, 56% completion rate or is he playing better than his stats indicate? Their WR corps scares the crap out of me as does Frank Gore.

The Patriots on the other hand I have watched a few times this year. Brady seems to be having a "down" year but all in all they seem to be the same Patriots. They did lose to the Bengals away. Obviously we play the 49ers in a west coast game which works to our disadvantage and we have the Pats at home. So in your opinion, who is the better matchup for us and which team scares you more?

I live in the bay area and I'm force fed 49er football. I don't like the team but I do follow them. Offensively the offense revolves around Frank Gore. If we can stop the run we will win the football game. Kaep is the most overrated out of all of the young QBs. He only reads one side of the field and runs. Kaep will not beat us with his arm it will have to be his legs. Vernon Davis is a beast but he only can run a couple routes. That would be the seam route and the post route. Anquan Boldin is also a beast but we should be able to get good pressure rushing 4 and dropping 7 into coverage. If we force them into 2nd and long, and 3rd and long situations we will stop their offense. As for their defense, they can be exploited. They have lost their starting DT Ian Williams for the year with a broken leg and also Ray McDonald. Glen Dorsey is the starter now but he is not as good. Their line backing core is one of the premier groups in the league and it will be difficult to stop them regardless of their Dline play. They secondary is better than ours but they can still be burned. We matchup very well with SF and we should be them especially if we jump out to an early lead. Their offense isn't built to play from behind with Kaep under center.

I think we beat both teams by the way. I see us losing maybe one more game this year. This wont be one of them.

Have you seen his WR core? Wait until Manningham (who will play against us) and Crabtree come back to judge the kid with 16 games under his belt and more playoff wins under his belt than all the other young QBs in the game.

Both coming off major injuries and won't be the same players at first. Regardless of who the receivers are Kaepernick is not a very good QB. He was exposed in the SB

Patriots, and it's not close. Brady has been terrible this year, and took three chances to beat the Saints, so don't bother counting that as some magical win (although I'm glad it happened!) Their receivers are raw, which helps our raw secondary, their offensive line is beat up which, benefits our defensive line, and it'll be home at BoA, not away at Candlestick.

We have been great this year at home. Even against the seahawks. Not so good on the west coast in our lone showing vs AZ.... Hopefully we can get some hits on Brady.. No easy task... But we have a better shot knocking Brady off his spot as oppose to going on the road and stopping bowman and Willis from wrecking the offense

Number one, we still play the Falcons. Number two, assuming we win these next two weeks that Monday night game should be jam packed with Panthers fans for the first time since we played the Bucs on Monday night. That game was loud and we were proud(I was in high school and went to the game).

You know our team will be jacked for the next three weeks because these are all teams we can prove something against. We still aren't getting respect( I'm okay with it because of the teams we beat). We got our preseason cupcakes out of the way. Our season starts today, and it starts with getting Matt Ryan the fug off of our field.

Downplaying a 1 minute drive with no timeouts for a TD diminished any hope this post had. It doesn't matter how many chances he got(they won as a team and put us within 2 games of the Saints).

I think we need to win at least 2 of the next 4. Pats and either Dolphins or Falcons seem the best bet. I'm not optimistic about the 49ers game. Maybe if it were in Charlotte, but not in SF.

Yea I would not bet my lunch money on the SF game.I am much more more concerned about there defense and our ability to get points on the board than I am about their offense,

The 49ers game is much more important to our playoff hopes.  We need to get that conference win vs. another potential wild card team.  SF is a very good team, but they are not as dominant as they were last year.  If we have a good game plan and scheme, execute and bring intensity it could be a great game to watch.  Potential shootout.  I think we are at a disadvantage in that we have to travel west.

The Patriots game will also be tough but I think it is winnable.  They are not as good as their record and are not the same dominant force they have been in years past.  They don't play with consistency and I have seen a lot of mental lapses.  Their running game is developing, but we do a great job of limiting yards.

Just to keep our heads above water we need to win one of these games.  Focus, intensity, skill, and coaching all have to come in line, but I actually think we will get there.  Winning both would be a huge boost.  Losing both wouldn't be the end of the world, but it would put a lot of pressure on us to sweep the Saints.

Beat SF and we will be in good shape.

    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
    • Honestly, I couod see Pittsburgh  moving all the way to 3 to get Sanders. Their window is now and Tomlin  clock is ticking. Their roster doesn't have many holes, so picks shouldn't worry them.  Depends on the Giants mindset but they could bend them over and get future 1st since they don't have any 2nds.
    • I sometimes question why the mention height when most edge defenders are around 6'2.   Maybe it's bc he was a senior and then are nitpicking.
